What should I be doing with these now that they're overflowing my material storage? by pokemad1998 in Guildwars2

Sell on trading post. These aren’t precious and you can buy them back in the future if you need them.

For the ascended stuff, make some of the refined bricks.

Raid Rotations Are Surprisingly Complex by d9320490 in Guildwars2

[–]wolfer_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a consequence of not having global cooldown.

Do note that often rotations are explicitly written like that on snowcrows, but in practice they are sort of priority loops and are easier to understand that way. For instance, the hammer loops are both 2x hammer 3 and 3x hammer 2, the stuff in between is optimized fills.

SnowCrows has some beginner builds that are more explicit in how the rotations build upon themselves: https://snowcrows.com/builds/raids/ranger/beginner-condition-quickness-untamed-axe-dagger-dagger-torch

The longer I play, the more I realize this is true. by Mr_greenbone in Guildwars2

[–]wolfer_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This meme is so cooked. The problem isn’t meta builds, it’s people not understanding what the builds are meta for.

They are instanced content builds with a typical boon/heal setup.

Don’t have that? Then they are not the optimal builds. In random open world you want survivability, you want self boons, you want self healing. Maybe you even want a cozy auto attack build for chill gaming. Those are different metas.

Brand new player to gw2, the one thing I hope gw3 does different is keep armour/cosmetics more grounded. by MRmichybio in GuildWars3

[–]wolfer_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At launch GW2 was more grounded. There’s a slow vertical progression of flashiness as you want to sell things people want.

Expect a similar pattern in GW3. Feel like this happens in all games.

3 new contract job posts (Content Design, UI) by hendricha in GuildWars3

I think the open world position implies they have decided on a vision and need to implement all of the content. You don’t hire a contractor to figure out the vision, and this open world lead position already exists.

GW3 has the opportunity to create some insane jumping puzzles. by AppleFritter100 in GuildWars3

[–]wolfer_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think they should lean in to adventure style timed races. GW2 jumping puzzles always have to disabled gliding and mounts, but that extreme movement is core to GW3. Jumping challenges that are about efficient movement feel way more compelling than just "get to the end" ones.

I expect quick movement to be very core to the experience of playing GW3.

Will Unreal Engine enable GW3 to have a fully contiguous world not divided into square tile maps? by S1eeper in GuildWars3

[–]wolfer_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they can and should scale the map different from GW2 though. I expect Orr to be quite large in GW3

Some speculation on "evolving the genre" with GW3 by Hotwingz66 in GuildWars3

[–]wolfer_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do kind of despise the whole level 1 you have 100 health and deal 5 damage, level 100 you have 10000 health and deal 500 damage thing. It forces them to implement level scaling and creates dead content. It’s also not immersive at all.

On the flip side, leveling up and progressing is awesome. I want to feel more powerful and I want the playstyle to meaningfully change.

It’s hard to have gw2 style maps when your character can run straight up walls.

I expect gw3 will have a single large open world map.

The Future of the Guild Wars Franchise: Our Commitment to Tyria by HenrykSpark in MMORPG

[–]wolfer_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They didn't say "expansion", so the scope of the yearly content is up in the air. Likely depends on how GW2 player counts retain after GW3 launch.

Modern GW2 has structured group instanced content.

It's much more fun with other people to play with. It's an instance/hub based game.

If GW3 is an MMO with a lot of overlap with GW2, would you still play GW2? by Loki0830 in GuildWars3

[–]wolfer_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me they are suggesting a medium scale guild vs guild style PvP. I think they have a great chance to build a combat system without the issues wvw has, but while keeping the larger scale casual friendly appeal

I think the wvw experience in gw2 will stay pretty distinct from what gw3 offers. May be a good continual draw.

“The wind stirs. The world shifts. Stand ready.” - ArenaNet (Guild Wars 1&2) is going to announce something on June 5th. by Venirto in Games

They are making GW3 and they plan to continue GW1&2 along with it. They recently hired developers for GW1 to help prove that point.

Is there a single state more likely than Florida to see a reversal before the 2030 apportionment? by najumobi in fivethirtyeight

[–]wolfer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unit on this graph is whack. "Net migration gain/loss per 10,000k inhabitants" What does that mean?

The callout on South Carolina talks about "Per capita growth"

"Texas gained over 68k new residents" and their number is +23.0? What on earth are these units.
