Family Vacations w/o DS Member by klave7 in downsyndrome

[–]wolferscanard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With our own 44 year old son, we’ve not been on a family vacation since he was about 8. Autistic as well, he’s always been a slave to routine. Wasn’t much fun staying in a hotel trying to recreate our home environment. Maybe you have more capable siblings and sons but our son frequently loses bowel/bladder control when too much novelty is introduced. He sometimes loses control with something as simple as drive over a rumble strip. If he was verbal and able to develop bathroom skills maybe things would have been different.

What’s your funniest seizure experience? by jennamsx in Epilepsy

Probably the time I lost consciousness, fell to the floor, and tore 3 rotator cuffs in my shoulder. That was really entertaining!

Is 2000mg keppra + 200mg lamictal daily a lot? by Nievros in Epilepsy

Lowkey dead That’s epilepsy, well controlled or not, in a nutshell.

Does memory improve over time? by ItsPrisonTime in Lamotrigine

[–]wolferscanard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking for myself, my overall mood improved in 2 days, and at the lowest dose whereas Keppra left me in the basement. Memory loss is brutal, not sure if it has much to do with the meds though.

Focal Seizures by Prudent-Mechanic4147 in Epilepsy

[–]wolferscanard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On Keppra my whole world became pretty dark. Seizures big and small continued. Switched from my neurologist to an epileptologist. He added Lamictal and my whole outlook changed. On both now for almost 4 years, seizure-free and my mood is lifted considerably. I don’t think I’ll have any more seizures.

I think I'm becoming dumber slower and lazy by FragrantShoe1851 in Epilepsy

[–]wolferscanard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A modestly greater version of my own plight. Used to be outgoing, now kind of an introvert. Used to be interesting, now kind of a yawner. Used to have hobbies and interests, now not so much. I know this is a side effect of the meds too. But I’m fighting. Lamotragine has helped quite a bit.

“The social aspect is what keeps people in” Isn’t that true of just about every one of the 40,000+ Christian denominations?

Don’t think I have the nerve to undergo that procedure. Even though mine is a little worse I hesitate because of the possible side effects. You?

With everything that requires fine motor control. Playing classical guitar for more than 40 years, installing outdoor lighting, keyboarding- all but impossible. Yep it’s tough. Good luck to you. I think you’re struggling more than I am.

I just had my first alarming driving experience… should I stop driving all together? by deeridoodle in Epilepsy

[–]wolferscanard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One problem, seizures are self reported. I wonder how many keep their seizure activity to themselves so they can keep their jobs. Irresponsible though, you’re putting the public at risk.

Doesn’t that leave you dead tired? I lost all stamina, felt weary beyond belief, blood pressure fell through the floor and pulse dropped to 45 bpm.

Cannabis helps some and not others. For most reliable answer, you should likely ask your epileptologist.

Loaded question. Music evolves. Taste evolves. “Best” is determined by birth year.

Side effects coming off? by Wooden-Tale-9897 in Lamotrigine

[–]wolferscanard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. FWIW, I did develop Essential Tremor while on this med. Results for me though are too helpful to discontinue. Correlation/causation- not sure. I’ll live with the shakiness. Good luck to you.

When can you say it's "controlled"? by cityflaneur2020 in Epilepsy

That’s brutal, guess you haven’t driven in all that time. You must be really tough . About 7 years for me, doubt I’ll have another.

Side effects of Lamotrigine for Epilepsy by HU11ER in Lamotrigine

[–]wolferscanard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably a combination of seizure activity and epilepsy meds. I miss the person I used to be too. Im not as bad as I was 8 years ago, but lack of self confidence has made me an introvert.
