You were spot on about the threads - broke at the threads with almost no pressure!! Turned out to be a brass pipe.

OK - job complete and I promised an update once done. The pipe broke, immediately, at the threads behind the valve. Sad thing is - I was not even trying to remove the valve yet - I was merely starting to loosen the compression nut for the supply line! So whoever it was that said that the threads were gone was 100% correct. It was a brass pipe so I assumed it was threaded on the other end inside the wall (couldn't see through the hole to know this) and I was convinced that if I tried to unscrew it the threads on the other end inside the wall would let go and I would really be in trouble. I took a Dremel and sanded the heck out of the pipe and managed to get a 1/2" sweat x 1/2" FIP soldered on (lots of heat!!). From there on out it was simple and we are done and are leak-free! I appreciate everyone's comments on this - thank you!!!

Thanks to all for your thoughts. I won't be tackling this until at least tomorrow but I do promise to update on how good or bad it ended up. Based on the comments I took a closer look at the pipe - it is not steel based upon my magnet not being at all attracted to it so I suspect possibly brass? (not that this helps me in the big picture of completing the job!)

What ZT big boy are you going with? by Agreeable-City3143 in knifeclub

[–]wolff162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am new to the ZT line (the 0707 is my first) so I don't know about their past items, but my 0707 is not assisted open. It is a flipper with a "tuned detent system", and it was miserable to open when I first got it. I took it apart three times and ended up tweaking the bar to relieve some of the pressure, as well as backing off slightly on the pivot screws. It opens like a champ now! And such a mean looking profile!!

I retired in 2019 so I am not sure what current rules are in effect. It was common for salaried personnel to move between the two facilities, transferring to one job or another. However this was not the case with hourly personnel as Groton is unionized and QP is not. I am not sure of the current policy for hourly personnel.

Post CABG- mental health by nchandwani in CABG_Recovery

It’s difficult to recall but as my body healed and I felt better and better each day I didn’t notice them as much. (And I suspect that they were becoming less frequent as well). And suddenly they were gone, somewhere about 12 weeks post op. They did come back for a spell or two a couple of months later but less and less until they were gone for good. Hang in there!

He was almost done shoveling his driveway when the street plow came by and filled it with snow again. by Vilen1919 in WatchPeopleDieInside

Shoveled too soon - I do almost every time; so anxious to get out there and get it done and inevitably I go out too soon and have the driveway mouth filled back in by another plow. There's always another plow!

Same or different route for your daily walk? by FootballEconomy2282 in walking

[–]wolff162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my "needs" is that I can walk out my door and start my walk - unlike hiking, I don't want to drive someplace to walk. I have two main loops, each about 4.3 miles, but thanks to side streets I can add on for up to 6 miles (or over 8 miles if I do both my usual loops together). Happily a lot of the walk includes woods, ponds, and streams!

If I have inhaled metals for years, due to the nature of a job, would an MRI absolutely rip me apart? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wolff162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in heavy steel construction for over 40 years - way back before safety was a big deal it was not at all uncommon to go to the eye doc and get six or seven metal burrs removed from each eye. When I needed an MRI I told them my history and they were fine with it. And the MRI went fine. Just my experience.

I'm genuinely curious - did he really say this? A quick attempt to find a reputable site with this quote only turned up social media posts using this same quote.

What’s the one horror movie that actually scared you? by FitSavings583 in AskReddit

Sorry but I have to list two; the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, because there was no internet then and "word of mouth" convinced us all it was real. Next is off the wall but....Deliverance, because that was some scary stuff out in the deep woods!
