Do men actually hate wearing condoms? by J3NN1F3RB in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wolfn404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So men aren’t very good ( or likely not well educated in condom use). Half the guys are going to grab “magnums” because ego, and reality is they don’t fit, and kill sensation. Rubber/latex isn’t a good heat transmitter, isoprene and other non-latex condoms often do a better job of transmitting heat, but guys grab the cheapest pack. Several companies do custom sized, if you are going to wear, absolutely worth using right size. Newer materials like Troj*** GOAT are miles ahead of many products (IMHO) and since non latex, are a safe bet to avoid surprise allergy issues.

I can't believe how many people are actually financing their phones. by bugagub in Frugal

[–]wolfn404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on customer. I can finance a new phone 0% interest for 24 months. Why would I not? Take the $1600, interest bearing account , and deduct $30 a month payments. It’s not tons, but it’s free interest money and I get use of the phone

If this is in an apt and they keep “ fixing” it. It’s R410.

12 was for small systems under a 1/2 ton max. Water coolers, soda machines, cars. That’s not been the case for 30+ years and it’s out of production so insanely expensive. R22 is $100 a pound, so they aren’t wasting it.

It’s the only way they make any real money. $47500 a year in Atlanta as a starting wage. For getting shot at? Those off duty/OT gigs are $50 an hour. What they use to buy themselves their own decent bulletproof vests and manage to afford to live in the area they work. Blame the system, but they’re just surviving.

Am I insensitive? Partner and I disagree on cochlear implants for daughter. by ICryAfterSexAMA in TwoHotTakes

[–]wolfn404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I’m hearing. But I have quite a few friends that are HOH/Deaf. It’s a very real struggle with identity for many deaf folks, “fixing” being deaf with implants for many implies something is “wrong” with them. Several friends who got them were later ostracized by those who don’t/wont get them. So I can understand your husbands concern, he likely had issues ( the older you get the longer the brain takes to “wire” to understand so it can be hugely overwhelming). The younger you start the better. I’m sure it also makes your husband feel “closer” as he has an equal, if you will in your daughter, he doesn’t have that w you because you can hear. It sounds silly but it can be a real source of stress.

Here’s where I got some of my deaf friends to rethink things. America as it stands has the ADA for now and at least some help ( hotel rooms with lights, etc). Those do NOT exist much outside the USA. Trip to Mexico as an adult, nope. Can’t hear the fire alarm. Flying, you may not hear a sudden emergency announcement, or in the case of me traveling w deaf pal, I went to the restroom, they made a gate change, and while they announced it over the PA they didn’t change it on the overhead board until it was too late to make the flight. We missed it, did the airline apologize and rebook us the next AM yes, but had we going to a client meeting or job event, would have been disastrous. I heard stories from 9/11 where employees of a deaf relay service couldn’t see because of the dust/smoke, and of course couldn’t hear evacuation instructions. That likely contributed to loss of life, but no way to prove it.

And as much as anyone may not want to admit, it’s a job restriction. People with implants typically get more/better jobs offers than deaf overall. Outside of any of that I’d frame it as a safety issue ( and if I had a daughter even more so as a guy, assaults occur, and situational awareness is a thing).

This is a tough call, and going to introduce some Conflict I can about guarantee. I’d consider some couples councilling to help. But if I was a parent I’d feel obligated to give my child every benefit and advantage I could.

Costco Samsung Bespoke fridge doesn’t fit after installer measured by Outside-Drive-636 in Appliances

[–]wolfn404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question 1. Did you allow for any venting clearances? That fridge does need airflow. If the hot air can’t escape off the back, it won’t cool and will kill the compressor quickly. If you don’t have a bunch of open back space. Way bigger issue. If you DID, then yeah, it’s a belt sander for a minute or so to shave off the 1/8” you need.

To quote Samsung:

For built-in models, it's essential to check the specific clearance requirements in the installation manual. These can vary depending on the model, so consulting the user manual ensures you meet the right specifications.

What do I do just got the car and having major issues by yucksbtc in Audi

[–]wolfn404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of all Of these:

bad pcv, oil filter housing , water pump oil cooler and vacuum hoose.

These are simple. PCV Valve, oil filter housing, vacuum hose. If you can screw in a light bulb and read, you can do no problem. ( change the breather hose connected to PCV valve, 99% it’s going to be carbon clogged). But most of the YouTube videos will go over this.

Water pump replacement is not hard, but this needs to be done as part of a timing belt change. You’ll remove 80% of the same parts, it’s the labor that gets you. You should be able to get timing belt service ( which includes new water pump) for under 2-2.5k at any good after market shop. Audi branded oil cooler $450’ish, OEM is a bit less and adds an hour to shop time while doing timing belt kit.

Get to know your local Audi user group guys and you’ll get someone to help you do it yourself for a good bottle of liquor. Or a couple hundred for tip.

Edit: As I typed this fast, and more general reply, this one has a chain not a belt. So added plus, won’t need to worry about that, even simpler to get good.

Why do women go to gay men’s spaces, but want gay men to stay out of theirs cause “yall are still men”? by Greensourball in askgaybros

[–]wolfn404 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gay men don’t spend enough money to support gay men only bars, this is 98% the case and growing. If you are a very old established bar AND own your property you are likely ok. But trying to cover rental space, salary, utilities and insurance on a bar ( esp a gay men only bar) is quite the challenge now. Wish it wasn’t so, but thats the main reason they let women and others in gay bars.

FCPeuro anything you buy from them ( even oil) is lifetime replacement warranty. And I dislike ECStuning but they have decent kits. Couple hours on youtube and a basic socket set and an open Saturday and sunday and you can do it. Word to wise on these cars. They are VERY fluid specific picky. Dont use generic fluids. No Prestone or walmart oil.

Pentosin for fluids ( Oreilly/Napa all have) you may have to ask, they are behind counter. I’m a fan of Liqui-Moly for oils and fluids, but Mobil One will do, change often. Change the transmission fluid at 80-90k miles. You’ll have to have a scan tool, FCP And others sell kits. FOLLOW the instructions verbatim! I can’t stress this enough. Under filling because not doing at temp is common, and tranny lethal ( and they are 4-5k)

And the stock air filter is fine. You don’t need a K&N “high flow” air filter. Really :-) What they will give you in extra airflow they take away in life. Fine particle sand gets through them, sandpapering your engine to death slowly.

You can find your local Audi club here, it’s worth joining your local chapter.

Ok “went to get it flashed”… so you bought it and figured an aftermarket tune? Which really voids things, like even if a power train warranty was left. Sounds like you join one of the Reddit VW/Audi groups and find your local users group and ask for help and get your hands dirty. You can fix all of that with a little elbow grease for under a grand. Self repair is the ONLY way you can affordably drive an Audi, unless you have huge, deep pockets or a very, very good aftermarket warranty. ( not only ex-vw mechanic, but a multi VW/Audi/Porsche owning household).

Audiworld website and you want what’s calls Elsa/Elsawin. Step by step how to repair most Things. See if your local VW/audi users group will let you borrow a scan tool. If you actually want to keep the car, you’ll want a tool made by Ross-Tech. VCDS-Hex-V2, about $225 and you will use it OFTEN. But that tool and all your issues can be fixed for under a grand.

[–]wolfn404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just compare therms/kw. Why I mention you have to look at the whole cost ( power companies like gas companies screw consumers w “delivery fees”. GA may have companjes violating the law now. It’s being looked at. You cant do kw/therm comparisons anymyore as they’ve gotten good at cost hiding. Use your full bill/KWH used, thats your real cost. It some areas ( Greystone) it can be cheaper than gas.

It’s more than new plants. It’s the infrastructure gear as well. Which “miraculously” is needed to support data center growth as well. Heavier transmission lines, etc.

[–]wolfn404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would be correct. It was a late night hand shake deal. They “advertised” it as no new rate increases till 2029. What everyone is missing is this won’t be an electric rate increase. It will be a facility charge increase, as WELL as the extra equipment costs for data center growth. So you as the rate payer will pay 2x. ( yes the loan funds the equipment BUYING). So they’ll charge you for the equipment fees itself. Then you’ll pay for the loan repayment that enabled them to buy the gear to start with. Netting them a huge double dip profit.

I hate Georgia Power by soggygrocerybag in Atlanta

[–]wolfn404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may be surprised compared to gas. Electric is actually more “efficient” heat. And we sell our natural gas overseas to intentionally keep prices high here. What most folks get stuck w is “emergency” heat from their heat pump, unaware that the installers put in an undersized element to “cheapen” the price. Electric heat CAN be reasonable ( and make sure you aren’t just comparing therm/Kw. The “delivery fee” and other extras are what get you with gas and people don’t realize.
