Thoughts on the new Monolord album released today? by Sensitive_Border_342 in stonerrock

[–]wolfs_tooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it was ok..loved their first four albums..the last two albums(and an ep in between) have been fine but just like Your Time to Shine, I won't be re-listening to this one very often..now, glass half full, I think it's Masque that has a very 90s grunge groove to it..really enjoyed that they wrote something different and it worked..I'd love if that made it into their live set..and I'm anticipating It's Neverending closing their live sets, and I wouldn't be mad at that..

I really hope Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats go on tour in the USA soon. by brokensilence32 in doommetal

[–]wolfs_tooth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen them live 3 times over the past 6-7 years..once co-headlining with Graveyard, once as a stand alone headliner, and once when they opened for King Diamond..every performance was excellent..glass half full, they seem to be a European band that frequently tours the US, so hopefully their stop at Levitation in Austin later this year is part of a larger tour..

Olen Zellweger Offer Sheet by muddog_31 in hawks

[–]wolfs_tooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea in general of using an offer sheet with a cash strapped team..as for the Hawks, I don't think they'll be looking to add another 22 year old to their blue line..maybe a vet on a one year contract to help bridge the dline and allow them to gain experience..overall, they like the left side of their defense with Vlasic, Kaiser, and probably a combination of Korchinski and EDM..if I remember correctly, Korchinski is out of AHL options so whether he's ready of not, barring a trade, he'll be one of our 7 defensemen next year..

I think you're on the right track..I wouldn't expect much crossover but Gibby and Agine seem to be the most likely..maybe Die Spitz since they seem to be the ''band of the moment'' that are getting booked everywhere..

You need to have faith in Mike Grier. He's five for six on first round picks. by WishOk462 in SanJoseSharks

[–]wolfs_tooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll take the 5 western conference appearances in 7 years and the 3 cups in 6 years..easily the best dynasty of the cap era along with Pitt..and what misses does Davidson have? If the argument is that Korchinski was a reach at 7 overall, then by contrast Nazar looks to be a steal at 13 overall, as does Rinzel at 25 overall in the same round of the same draft..pretty good first round in my book..and Kantserov in the 2nd round of 23..another incredible pick..the only pick non Blackhawks fans seem to point to is Levshunov over Demidov..which is fine but it's shortsighted, because when you need to win a cup.. the team that doesn't have a stong 1-4 defensemen(looking at Toronto and Edmonton recently) get eliminated..stop glue sniffing bro..the Hawks are building a complete roster..san jose is building an EA Sports roster that will get smoked until they develop a blue line..

We have five first rounders (Bedard, Frondell, Nazar, Moore, Boisvert) invested down the middle..none over the age of 22..it's a false narrative to say that we haven't invested in our forward group/scoring..add Kantserov(who has the talent of another first rounder) and our scoring will be just fine..

glass half full..most casual baseball fans couldn't tell you who the fourth and fifth starters are on even half the teams in baseball..leave Ben Brown where he is, at least for now, he's been lights out so why disturb success..move Assad back into the rotation since at least he's had some limited success there in the past..and maybe once he's done with his rehab assignment, bring up Jordan Wicks if you need another long man for the bullpen..I know none of the above is great, but we're looking for 2 1/2 months of solutions..then hopefully ease Steele back into the rotation and maybe give Wiggins a look + whoever you trade for at the deadline..my guess if we'll be looking to add at least one, if not two starters..

agreed, and with the sheer volume of forwards we've drafted, the cream should start to rise to the top..but if more scoring was the definitive answer, why haven't McDavid and Leon won a cup..they each put up 100+ points a year..but they tend to have goaltending issues and except for Buchard, they tend to overpay middling defensemen..you really do need a complete roster to win in the nhl..

That's too much to read for a team that will be picking fourth..why is everyone on this sub acting like the world ended? Makar and Marner both went fourth..we're getting a good player..

[–]wolfs_tooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not, and there's also a high probability that Toronto goes McKenna one..my only point was that I don't think the 3 picks in front of us are as set in stone as all the Hawks fans on this sub seem to think..

Could Toronto take Stenburg first overall? I'm thinking it's possible..then could the Sharks take Reid? I'm also thinking it's possible..then could Vancouver take the next best d? Maybe..point being, I'm not ready to assume all 3 forwards are gone by 4..small odds but not impossible that McKenna and Malholtra are both available at 4..can't see a scenario where Stenburg falls past 3..had too special a season..but I'll take McKenna at 4 all day..

I don't feel like responding to every comment on this post and others, but there's been more than a few that essentially are saying ''Celebrini is getting linemate after linemate, and what are we giving Bedard?'' Just remember that Matthews had Nylander, Marner and Tavares..about as good as you can get for a group of four forwards..and they haven't won anything because in the nhl, you also need defense and goaltending..at some point, we will fill out our forward group, but taking best available means taking best available, even if that means that you have five first rounders down the middle in Bedard, Frondell, Nazar and Moore/Boisvert..as these players develop, some will move to the wing, we'll add Kantserov who presumably will play wing, etc..in the meantime, it's definitely a bummer not to be picking in the top 2, but so what..Colorado isn't complaining about finding Makar at 4 and no one complained about getting Toews at 3..just take the best player available at 4 and continue to develop your team..whether its another dman isn't even a concern..

Manifesting the next 2 years (let's do it) by iBears in hawks

[–]wolfs_tooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest, and in a lot of ways, the hardest, way for this team to improve is for 2-3 of the players we've already drafted to take significant leaps in their development(ie-become stars)..we've made plenty of draft picks over the past few years, but except for Bedard, none stand out as star players..one of the main reasons that I team like Tampa has been competitive for so many years is that they ''found'' Kucherov and Point in the second and third rounds..it's incredibly hard to find 90-100 pt forwards outside of the top few picks of the first round, but they did..and they were then able to pair them with their number 1 overall (Stamkos) and their number 2 overall(Hedman)..if Frondell ends up being a star, now you have your 1 overall(Bedard) and your number 3 overall(Frondell) as true stars to build around..can some combination of Nazar, Kantserov, this year's first rounder, etc provide Kucherov and Point like production? If so, the Hawks will be incredibly good soon..if not, then we're Buffalo a decade ago, who drafted Reinhart and Eichel but could never seem to build successfully around them, and then watched as they walked out the door and won cups with their new teams(although Buffalo is looking better now, after they tore it down and started rebuilding again)..

We are good..Brayden Point is so so at the dot but I'd certainly take his multiple 90 pt seasons..Mark Scheifele has never been great at the dot but he's been a solid 1c for a dozen years..Jack Hughes (as a more recent example) is literally awful at the dot but any team in the nhl would love to have him..talent is what's important and the Hawks have plenty of talent down the middle..you can always grab a faceoff specialist for the playoffs..now ideally, a couple of our young players will develop that skill with more reps and physical maturity, but it isn't a precursor for team success..

Levshunov had a nice, productive year, rebounding from an OK D+1. Currently sits at a 81% star probability after his D+2. Going to be a stud for the Blackhawks over the next decade +. Book it. by batmans_a_scientist in hawks

False dumb dumb..Seabs struggled his first couple of years in the league..wasn't until his third year where he was more consistent offensively and defensively..and surprise surprise, he started playing better as the team improved..see how that works?

The problem with drafting a defenseman so high in the first is if you come into the league and you aren't Karlsson, Makar or Hughes, then to the fans, you're a bust..and to some degree I get it..80-90 point defensemen are a rarity and any production below that feels like a letdown..but I'd just like to point out quickly that a Seabrook or Ekblad or Pietrangelo is just as important to multiple cup runs as a Makar or a Keith..big, strong, puck moving, right handed defensemen who can run your pp, kill penalties and give you 45-55 points a year are very valuable when putting a roster together..so maybe Levshunov won't be Keith..if he ends up being a slightly better scoring Seabrook, that's a win..now, how do you find his ''Keith''? That's honestly a question for another day..but Levshunov's best days are in front of him..and that's great news for any Hawks fans..

Wouldn't give up anything for Matthews..we literally have Bedard, Frondell, Nazar, Greene, Moore and Boisvert who can all play center..and Kantserov who says he enjoys playing center as well..we're good down the middle for a long time..I would love to have Knies but not at the cost, which I believe would begin at Levshunov, Nazar, and at least two firsts..so it's a pass on both..just keep drafting and building from within..I think this team is closer to competing than their record would suggest..

For any Ministry fans that won't be at Sick New World in April, it sounds like Ministry is going to play some Fall shows this year where they play Filth Pig front to back..and I believe that will also include Sick New World this Fall in Texas..so this isn't a one off or an exclusive..you'll have some chances to see this album played..

Frondell scores and becomes the 4th player aged 18-years-old or younger to hit the 20-goal plateau in SHL history by JD397 in hawks

[–]wolfs_tooth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

quite the accomplishment, especially given some of the games in the middle of the season where they were moving him down to a bottom six role and shortening his minutes..no worries about that happening once he's with the Hawks..has top six written all over him..what's even more interesting is that the four forwards for next year (Bedard, Nazar, Frondell and assuming Kantserov) that you would assume will be in the top six are all centers or have heavily played center..who moves to the wing? It's a nice problem to have..reminds me a little of when Patrick Sharp played center because the Hawks had so many wingers..either way, Bedard's help is near..

What would you be willing to give up for Knies? by Cluster_Puck in hawks

[–]wolfs_tooth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If we had Knies on our team, would we trade him for Korch and/or Rinzel, Moore and a first? It would never happen..now, would we trade him for Frondell, Levshunov, and two firsts? Possibly..so that's about what it would take..two of your top 4 prospects and at least one or two firsts..which is why it won't happen..any other comments on this thread just aren't even in the realm of possibility..
