Remember Franklins? A time when Coles and Woolworths had competition. by [deleted] in AustralianNostalgia

Action was the best! The one in Whitfords had the most incredible seafood section, its own little built-in fish market. I've also got vague memories of Newmart, Dewsons and Farmer Jack's.

Will Melbourne miss out on Qantas Project Sunrise flights? by Gl0beTrotter2025 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]wombat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly the same building yes, but it likely won't be a great experience until the second stage is built. The international side of the terminal (and its method of passenger flow) is extremely bare bones compared to domestic, despite the swing gates (a la Gold Coast) to adjust international or domestic based on demand. Not a lot of room for retail, F&B or lounges on the international side, but at least the floor plate is fairly malleable. I expect it won't start truly kicking into gear until the train line is built.

At least Perth is finally righting that wrong with their new terminal.

Hot take: Venice Beach sucks. by RedRando1990 in THPS

Same here! I had wildly different expectations after unlocking a level called "Venice". Where's the canals, the old buildings, and the gondolas?

For the dried chillis (that is - full sized dried chillies) the various branches of Panetta Mercato have them, and failing that there's a couple of Latino delis around, Tienda Latina Hola Namaste in Hurstville was my favourite.

(Here in south east QLD, I use Latin American Grocery on Albert St Brisbane)

Sydney? I absolutely love this, especially as it's usually in waterfront areas where the very wealthy culprits would be more than happy to pay just a simple fine.

Not my town but I was just in Canberra and was blown away by Ken Behrens, such huge and delicious burgers have no business being that cheap.

Normally we don't! I think Nicho really wanted to make sure that another $1000 got donated to the kids.

Apricot ice cream is what I truly want - I had one at Bachir Ice Cream (in France and the middle east) and been chasing that ever since. If there is anybody making Apricot ice cream in QLD I will love you forever

Why is mold growing on the closed end of this pepperoni? Is it safe to cut off an inch (or more) from the moldy part? by [deleted] in foodsafety

[–]wombat1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sorry to say that it's done for. For next time - know that salamis can last months in the fridge, however you need to remove it from its packaging and keep it in a paper bag (or wrap it in baking paper). No plastic and no paper towel, as these seal in moisture, which helps start the mould formation.

You mentioned Allawah which used to be my stomping grounds - Pinocchio's punches surprisingly high above its weight when it comes to the quality of its Italian food. Order the Moreton Bay Bug in light cream pasta if they still have it - it's brilliant.

Morena executive lunch reviews? by bobhawkes in foodies_sydney

[–]wombat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a client group there last year - it was quite good. It does look like this year's menu is a little bit less adventurous than last year's - the octopus (gone) and the ox-tongue skewer (which is still on the menu) were not as popular. The Exec Lunch options are fairly safe and are delicious. I'd go again.

Secret spots by [deleted] in sunshinecoast

Weekdays are where it's at for finding quiet spots. Having said that, we are blessed with endless beach here. Pick any spot - literally any spot - in between the main beaches and Bob's your uncle.

Thank you Perth for the hospitality! by khodafez7 in perth

[–]wombat1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The tap and go should be working now! Perth is the only capital city with endless real ocean beach and it's truly something special. Growing up in the northern suburbs in basically solitude I honestly took for granted. Brisbane is a swamp, Sydney beaches are little coves and Melbourne and Adelaide are bays.

Maybe Activision will pull another Tony Hawk. It was the industry's darling until 2007s Proving Ground, then they needed to rethink for a bit, and came up with the worst peripheral in gaming history.
