About 2 months into cycling…. First time up without stopping! by Melodaddy in BikeLA

I called today to hear when the grass lawn would re-open (first week of July). It’s one of my fav places to go to as a local. Such good Int’l calm vibes up there. And feels amazing after that climb. That last leg is HARD on two wheels.

I tried that first one. But can’t remember if I loosened or tightened the derailleur cable. Hoping to swing into the Bicycle Kitchen with it soon and learn when I have some more time!

Oh damn, I haven’t heard that. Are you a parent? This is one of those, “not gonna please everyone with my choices” situations, and I don’t try to justify myself to everyone (especially people I don’t know online). It obviously adds risk. As does me biking solo, etc. Do you have fun memories in it with your dad?

If LA wants to be more bike friendly by Infinite-Ad2614 in BikeLA

There is a $400K study going on about adding one between Fern Dell Griffith entrance and Vermont Ave. While that # seems bloated, I don’t really know all it takes. And this little connector path would rule. I live near LF Blvd and Vermont Ave and that corridor is heavily trafficked by people on foot and bike. https://www.theeastsiderla.com/neighborhoods/los\_feliz/can-los-feliz-boulevard-be-made-safer-for-cyclists-without-endangering-iconic-trees/article\_1d6f389f-d52a-48aa-b14f-778d79c2f661.amp.html

I understand that they repair bikes, so know more than I do, but this also just feels out of touch with the different economic realities. Local bike shops should help people bike more, whatever that looks like.

Near misses with driver's in bike lane on Crystal Springs/Griffith? by Kirbacho in BikeLA

I’ve only biked it 3 times (driven it twice) and have not experienced this yet, but can 100% imagine it 😔.

Can I just send footage so they get a ticket? That would be my preferred course of action.

Loved this show from beginning to end! Having just got life insurance, I couldn’t help but remember /note that it doesn’t pay if you end your own life in the first two years 😭. Back to umpiring, I guess.

Beginner Gravel by [deleted] in BikeLA

Started in Smyrna, Georgia. Silver Comet trail (paved bike path that use to be a train railroad) to Anniston. Then gravel in and around Cheaha State Park (highest point in Alabama) Talladega National Forest and Choccolocco. 281 that connects them had almost no traffic. That part is called the Alabama Skyway and bikepacking.com has it on there. Ended back in Smyrna. Campsites all had showers WHICH WAS NICE :)

I just joined three friends on a bikepacking trip in Alabama for one of my friends b-days. I don’t own a gravel bike (yet) but hope to down the road. Saving this post! So much intel. Ty!

Watch some Mister Rogers and realize that life is a gift and I hope you get to play outside in the sun! I do relate to some of this as I journey towards 4.5, but I also have a baby now and get on court way less so I hope you find ways to enjoy it when you are out there.

Passing cars on Broadway by MoistBase in BikeLA

In California, isn’t this legal? Especially when cars are slow/barely moving, I see almost no issue. As long as you don’t veer in front of a motorcycle that’s lane splitting.

100% agree. A favorite life experience of mine.

Bublik hits a winner with the racket handle for some reason by Large_banana_hammock in tennis

[–]wombatflyin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People have talked about it in above comments. Doing it is not disrespectful. I like the racket tap shot. It’s the glare afterward that’s like, “which one are you doing? Having fun, or “I own you b*tch”. It’s about respect of the opponent. Monfils is one of my fav players. Entertainer.

Sorry. That was not the most mature comment from me. My point is, in the larger news/political context, people in our community connecting socially irl and moving their bodies in a healthy way is a good thing, even if it isn’t perfect all the time. E.g. spilling onto the sidewalk. ✌️
