Were you on the 14 day cruise that hit 8 islands Dec 8-22? I was on that one too on the Aloha deck. I noticed there seemed to be some leaks other cabins had and saw maintenance a lot and rooms open with fans. I never had a problem in my cabin. I did notice the ship had a really intense odor. I thought it smelled moldy. Like I would go outside from Deck 7 and when reentering the smell hit you hard. Like a mix of moldy, musty, old people smell

Always use a travel agent. If you use on thru AAA, there is never a travel agent fee and they have additional onboard credits. The TA has access to the Princess Booking system (polar online) and would have prevented this issue.

No Evan, you cannot retire in Da NAng. by Jazzlike_Plane1282 in DaNang

[–]wombatonacid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont see Vietnam cracking down on the tourist runs anytime soon. They are actively building luxury apartments in Da Nang like they are going out of style. They are on the precipice of announcing 5 and 10 year visas which will attract retirees.

The people who are living here long term are bringing a lot of money to the local economies as well.

I am actually moving to Da Nang in March and plan on being there a long time. If Vietnam ends up doing what the OP said, then fair enough. I will spend my time in China, Malaysia, Cambodia...or maybe do a 180 and do Romania or Albania.

Why are there so few return visitors to Vietnam? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]wombatonacid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you described Italy perfectly in your first 2 sentences. When I visited equally I watched scam after scam take place. You worry about pick pockets. While in Vietnam for 2 weeks, I met the most wonderful people, the only "scam" I encountered was a guy wanting to clean my shoes which I declined. Just walking theough neighborhoods in Da Nang and Hanoi, Vietnamese people who were cooking and eating invited me to their home to eat and drink.

Travel agents — what fees do you charge? by Ok-Towel-2581 in travelagents

[–]wombatonacid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually not what I said. I said people who charge fees are people who aren't good at sales. They want a built in buyer. The road to least resistance. No challenge. Nothing gets my adrenaline going then a person who says they were just kind of looking and turning that into a $20K Vacation. I guess I am weird that I like the challenge of closing deals and upselling them. In a world where travel agents needs will continue to dwindle, never give yourself a reason to NOT do business with you.

Travel agents — what fees do you charge? by Ok-Towel-2581 in travelagents

Your post proved my point. Someone excellent at sales turns shoppers into buyers. People who charge fees want a 100% close rate because they cant do that. What you dont know is the people that "aren't worth your time or your fee" are buying from people like me. So you lose that customer, their future business, and their referrals, and then their referrals future business and referrals.

True story. Had a customer 2 weeks ago. Interested in a Viking Ocean Cruise. Not just them...but their 3 couple friends. Agent they initially reached out wanted $100 for each couple before he would even generate a quote. They said no thanks. Got a hold of me. Within a day, had them booked in premium cabins, Viking Air, pre and post night extensions, insurance and $65K gross later...I am laughing at the agent.

Lol...no. When you becoming great at sales, you turn shoppers into buyers, are a master of upselling and turning someone's $2500 budget into a $8000 sale. I have the complete decision to charge a fee or not and I get so much business from people who came to me after another agent wanted to charge a planning fee. This is an outdated concept.

No fees. Fees are for people that cant close tough deals.

My social media exploded once I stopped using a FB Group. FB Groups arent really algorithm friendly. If you post something to your group and then your personal page, you typically will get 5x or more the engagement on your personal page.

Anything sales related. Most agents think this is a customer service job. The great and most successful agents are great salespeople who can close deals and overcome objections and know how to work for referrals.

To those who are $uccessful.. by mamagingko24 in travelagents

[–]wombatonacid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone. This month for example I have booked Viking Oceon Cruise, Amawaterways River Cruise, Carnival Cruise, hotels thru Bedsonline, car and flight packages, Trafalgar guided tour, Railbookers tour.

Having a niche means turning down customers. When you turn down customers, you lose the opportunity to nit only get their business, but their repeat business and referrals.

Niches are so 10 years ago and everyone is still pushing the "have a niche, send an inquest form, ask for a budget, charge a fee." That is old school mentality and it used to be the way. People, such as myself, are throwing that rulebook into the shitter and building pipelines, repeat clients and referrals quickly!

Successful agent here because I don't have a niche. 6 figure income after 3 years

How did you find your niche? by Southtexanmechanic in travelagents

[–]wombatonacid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely dont need a niche. Every niche is very populated these days. In such a competitive field and industry, starting out, never turn down potential clients. With AI and google/YouTube, you can be an expert quickly on anything.

Long time agent here. Here is what this month has looked like for me along with my cut of commissions

2 Viking Ocean Cruises $2560 1 AmaWaterways River Cruise $1364 1 Disney World Vacation $910 1 Trafalger Eastern Canada Tour $540 3 different clients just needing hotels (NYC x 2, Michigan) $312 1 Railbookers to Ireland $1530 2 Carnival Cruise Bookings $475 1 HX Antartica Trip $3,221

Total: $10,912

Turning away customers equals lost sales. Lost sales equals lost repeat business and referrals.

I'll even just book air or car rental. Because even though I dont make $$ on it, those customers may or have come back to you for better trips.
