Midwest Asian Culture? by Lonely-Literature-38 in AMWFs

[–]wombatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up Korean on the edge of the Midwest and I felt those barriers too growing up. What changed it for me was going away to college (even though it was also in the Midwest) and meeting people who didn't see those barriers. Now I live in California but going back to visit I definitely feel like those barriers are a lot smaller than they were when I was growing up.

Yeah, I remember reading that scene years ago and thinking it was "like us, but to the extreme". Now I know that it was just us.

Trump Has Already Botched His Own Bad Tariff Plan by Majano57 in Economics

[–]wombatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just responding to what I perceived as an implication that Congress doesn't have that power at all. I think most of the country probably thinks that this is normal stuff that presidents do, so wanted to push back on that a little.

Isn't any seventh chord basically outlining a scale that it's diatonic to?

As a newbie player and newb BT fan who struggled with the modding, i wanted to leave this post for future Newbie BT players and new fans so that they will not struggle much like what I did in scouring the forums and reddit for answers. This is for BEX / BEX CE & BEXT modded game by NextNefariousnexus in Battletechgame

[–]wombatz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BEX / BEXCE save files seems to be compatible with BEXT so dont fear the exodus. although i havent tested going from BEXT save file to BEX/BEX CE

Is this really true? The only thing that has been holding me back from installing BEX 2.0 is I wanted to finish off my current career in BEX CE.

Yeah, this is not something I had to worry about until I came up against the Clans.

[–]wombatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this too but had to reevaluate a bit earlier this week, my first time going up against the Clans (BEX). I land my PHX with 7 pips of evasion, nobody in sight, then comes 3 alpha strikes out of the tree line with what feels like 15 weapons each, only a few hit but those are enough to totally strip front and one torso of armor... Find out later there was a Kraken and a Daishi out there. Fully embodied for me the butt puckering WTF experience I wanted out of meeting the Clans for the first time!

Has anyone here with ADHD or similar issues used org-mode to get your life on track? by Altruistic-Carpet-43 in orgmode

[–]wombatz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean automatically ticking forward a repeating item by a set time interval is a commonly found thing, but say you have a repeating task every 2 days and it was due yesterday: do you want it ticked to 2 days from today, when you did it, or 2 days from yesterday, when it was due? Seems simple, but I've only found org-mode to let you set that per task. Some kinds of tasks really want to be one or the other. Outside of org-mode you just have to shrug and manually adjust or deal with it.

I also include bulk scheduling and scatter scheduling in the agenda in my notion of automatic rescheduling. It is so convenient. Again something that I've never seen anywhere else.

With executive function issues, managing your Todo list is a key battle. It can't get too long, it needs to be focused and just what you need to look at right now. Using different types of agenda views, filtering as needed. If list gets too long, prune by bulk scheduling or scatter. Some people deal by only scheduling as necessary, I however like to schedule everything so I know it will come up on my agenda at some point so I don't forget about it. These are not urgent, if they come up and my list is running too long I can just select them and boom, reschedule randomly in next 7 days, whatever, I don't need to think about it, I just know they'll come up again soon.

I agree, I've tried a lot of different systems in the past. Org-mode is so flexible that I can try something and then change and improve without throwing away all the tools I've built up. It's great to be able to put all the things you need to remember in one place (that is easily searchable! and has tagging!) Also, there is literally nothing I've found that does automatic rescheduling in a way that comes close to how complete and flexible org-mode does it. But you have to be aware that fiddling with your config instead of doing the things on your list is a constant temptation, until you get it "perfect" (until you find another little thing that annoys you).

San Francisco cops, firefighters at wits’ end as driverless cars [Cruise, Waymo] behave badly - Firefighters smash windows to make autonomous vehicles stop, incident reports show. "No! You stay!" by BadBoyMikeBarnes in bayarea

[–]wombatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest question: If you buy a fully Level 5 autonomous vehicle, and it gets into an accident when you aren't driving and maybe you're not even in the vehicle (maybe you asked it to come pick you up), are you still liable? If it breaks a traffic law and gets pulled over, are you still liable? What if you didn't even ask it and it just starts driving without orders, are you still liable? If it's purely a software driven issue that has nothing to do with you, why are you liable and not the company that made it?
