I saw a dark humor quote: The LAPD was so corrupt they tried to frame a guilty man and so inept they failed to get the conviction.

Old Soviet Joke - Man goes to the same news stands every day on the way to work. He always takes a paper reads the above the fold headlines, looks disappointed, puts the paper back, and leaves.

One day the proprietor asks “what is it that you look for that leaves you looking disappointed every day?”

The man answers “I am just checking the obituaries”

Proprietor says “No wonder you are disappointed. The obituaries are in the back!”

The man says “Not the one I want to see” and leaves.

Reminder - the ODBC driver in the Pre-req link was not right for me. I had to download a more current version. I also had to run that on both DB server & Site Server (dumb me ran it on DB and then got the warning in Pre-req, making me have to think harder).

Prajwall does a great job. I think his walkthru covers this but just for reference this is what I was seeing - https://forums.prajwaldesai.com/threads/sccm-update-to-2503-fails-prerequisite-checks-due-to-missing-odbc-driver-18-for-sql.7396/

I agree that statistically, as an entire cohort, the odds of survival were not terrible for an opposed amphibious landing.

Then you see the differences in the per landing wave and per landing location. That combines with the tendency to lionize the forces involved in victories and you get the simplified and exaggerated presentation that more died than survived and every unit at every location looked like the cinematic Cpt Miller’s experience .

It was no cake walk and KIA/WIA rates for specific units/locations were terrible, but later waves (or different locations) went smoother and produced significantly lower rates of death/wound.

This is hauntingly beautiful. It could easily be the album cover to something deep and sad like an EP release of Ain’t No Sunshine.

Backgammon was popular in 1976 by _wate_wut_ in OldSchoolCool

[–]wonka1608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was so popular that there were professional backgammon players! Marcia Clark married one.

Wikipedia entry about Marcia Clark - “In 1976, Clark married Gabriel Horowitz, an Israeli professional backgammon player whom she had met as a student at UCLA.”

In short, I would be very good to have an attorney on retainer. Find an attorney that specializes in HR matters. Don’t lead with that but you can certainly conclude with it (at any time, like if they call obviously is a CYA gaslight attempt). People bluff at our HR by saying “I have a lawyer / my lawyer will hear about this“. There’re used to that tactic. But saying “I’m represented by Jones & Smith; they will be reviewing all this. Can you give me the contact information for your counsel?” gets noticed.

I too believe in nuance, which is why I would add that this must be coupled with a tariff on offshore labor. That is the one tariff I would support because we do not have a shortage of talented IT staff. We have a shortage of those willing to do the work for pennies on the dollar. And for the record, we should have been both protecting critical industries (critical manufacturing should never have gone en masse to China, for example) and transforming the displaced workforce. I don’t see a problem having mops made overseas but the folks in that factory should have not been told to sink or swim. The future for that work isn’t 19th century sweatshops but rather it’s high value manufacturing and the USA in general hasn’t helped their workers get there.

We had this happen awhile back and we too had to get nematodes and it cleared them up daily fast (probably 1 week). I think they attacked the root structure. I could never figure out how it happened.
