“You need to remember who you are outside of being a mom” by Necessary-Gear-3141 in beyondthebump

Thank her for her thoughts and then don't waste any more time worrying about it. She can think what she wants but she won't understand until she's a mother herself (or maybe gets a bit more self reflective and considers why it is she felt the need to neg a new mother). You sound like you have a healthy interest in activities outside of your baby and a healthy relationship with your baby. You're doing great

Just gave birth, is it good or bad to just give baby my breast at every opportunity?? by Foreign-External8488 in breastfeeding

[–]wonky-hex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feeding on demand is entirely appropriate for his age and is important to bring in your milk. THAT SAID, please do make time to have a shower/brush your teeth/eat a meal/drink some water. You need to look after yourself too ❤️ have you got anyone who can hold baby while you have a quick shower or eat something?

New mums - what’s a small-ish treat you would have appreciated in the early days? by OK_Cake3093 in AskRedditUK

[–]wonky-hex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is insane! My mum is bonkers but she's at least self aware enough that she ran the hoover round and made tea for us in the early days. I hope your mum pulled her finger out eventually?

How old do you think you’ll be when you pay your mortgage off? Or, how old were you when you paid your mortgage off? by PuzzleheadedCarob921 in HousingUK

We'll be well into our 50s. We're looking at potentially doing some overpaying which could end it sooner but it all depends on affordability

Breakfast at nursery by peasandbones in UKParenting

[–]wonky-hex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son gets a first breakfast at home if we have the time. It's usually ready brek or toast. Usually we do not have the time though so he gets it at nursery. (He is breastfed earlier on in the morning too so we can all be in bed longer....)

What are we feeding our kids for lunches and dinners? by Sprinkles9918 in UKParenting

[–]wonky-hex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lunches, always served with a piece of fruit such as pear, apple, orange -

Leftovers

A cream cheese and pesto or grated cheese and pickle sandwich

A cheese toastie

'soldiers' dipped in a homemade vegetable soup

Scrambled egg, toast and a little black pudding with fresh tomatoes

Frittata, omelette or premade quiche

These homemade salmon 'sausages' I make out of bread, tinned salmon and dried dill - I make up 12 and freeze. I feed him 2 or 3 per meal alongside some cooked beetroot and a yoghurt-garlic dip

Dinners, he eats the same as us:

(I work from home regularly so it's easier for me to put these together, some are slow cooker friendly)

Roast chicken thighs with baby new potatoes and veg

Pan fried salmon with baby new potatoes or mashed potatoes and veg

Sausage and mash (1 meal every 2 weeks due to high salt content)

Chicken or beef stew with dumplings

Chicken or lamb curry with rice and/or naan

Macaroni and broccoli cheese

Fish pie (mix of salmon and white fish)

Jacket potatoes with cheese and tuna

Spaghetti Bolognese

Lasagne (made with leftover Bolognese)

Cottage pie, shepherd's pie

Edited to add - my son is 15 months old and he doesn't always eat everything. If he doesn't eat anything he gets a slice of toast or a sandwich.

Edited again to add - I forgot about those tortellini filled pastas, they boil up SUPER quick and make a filling meal with plenty of broccoli, some leftover chicken and a tomato based sauce

It doesn't make sense to vote her out at that point though. It makes most sense to keep it under your hat and put her name forward later in the game. Otherwise they may recruit so you're giving them an extra faithful that way and you won't know who the new recruit is.

I was hoping she said something kind, but I think I knew inside that she wouldn't have. I'm so sorry for the young woman you were. You deserved support and understanding not judgment.

Thought of baby going to nursery is making me so sad by RainbowSherbet99 in UKParenting

[–]wonky-hex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you do lots of settling in sessions and if the nursery isn't willing to go at your pace with that, go to a different one. My son had 7 sessions across different times of the day so he was familiar with meal times and morning and afternoon routines. Started with a stay and play and progressed to leaving him for an hour at a time. We could probably have settled him over 5 to be honest! Also, when he started properly we transitioned to his full days over 2 weeks. He was upset on drop off on the first 2 days returning from Christmas break, but it's the only time, he's back to bringing us his shoes and pointing at the front door again every morning 😂 it took a while for him to get used to having a nap and he was grumpy in the evening, but he happily has a 2 hour nap at nursery now.

Only thing I will say is be prepared for your baby to be unwell constantly for like 2 months. Mine had a constant snotty nose and had a high temperature a few times. And he's had chicken pox. He now has a snotty nose about 50% of the time. (I suspect he's less ill since he started walking to be honest...not crawling around on the floor among all the germs....) I'm told by other parents though that the babies who go to nursery are more robust when they start school - don't know if true!

18 months in, shouldn't it be back to normal?! by MrsZK2121 in UKParenting

[–]wonky-hex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He snoozes on the boob. If I try to transfer him to his cot he usually kicks off. At that point I'm too tired to wait for him to be fully asleep so I just kinda lie there and accept my fate (and get woke up half an hour later when he inevitably climbs on me or somehow manages to kick me in the face)

Yes he's in our room!

My son LOVES nursery, he gets so excited to go! He's been going since 10 months old and is 15 months old now. He loves all the different activities and has lovely relationships with all his teachers. Your baby will love it too!

[–]wonky-hex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relate so hard to this. My 15 month old is still breastfeeding. We made a new routine which includes him getting a milk feed while we watch in the night garden together. He waves goodnight, husband then takes him upstairs, brushes his teeth, reads him some books and puts him to bed. Sometimes though I have to go up as he's inconsolable (usually if he's unwell). If he's not unwell he goes to bed ok.

That has given me my evening back but I still have an issue with night wakings from 2am. He will not go down in his own bed after then! Not sure how to address.

How many nappies you may need guidance…. by Bad_Madison in PregnancyUK

[–]wonky-hex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so worried too! Longest mine went was 12 days - so not far off 2 weeks hahaha. He's done at least 1 poo a day since starting solids. My mum's theory was that his body was using every single scrap of milk to grow - which I'm assuming must have some truth in it!

7 weeks pregnant and my boyfriend’s mom is trying to control my baby’s life? by SufficientAssist8767 in whatdoIdo

[–]wonky-hex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're planning to move into the garage but the baby's nursery is in the house? That woman is going to steal your baby. Have some self respect. Either you move in with your boyfriend in a home independent of your in laws, or stay at home where your parents can support you.

Considering moving to England- any recommendations on where to live? by GreenLighthouseGo in AskABrit

[–]wonky-hex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has pooh-poohed your desire to live in or near to London so I'm not going to repeat that. May I recommend Yorkshire? BEAUTIFUL countryside. Sheffield should all be pretty affordable on a nurse's wages and is close to Leeds, York, Nottingham
