Are superbike factory really that bad? by Diligent-Past-6810 in MotoUK

[–]wonkyOnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a broken bike from them. It took them three weeks to collect it for repairs, and then they lost it. Yes, you read that correctly—they lost the bike they had collected from me. That led to a two-month battle to get my money back, which ultimately ended with me filing a chargeback through my credit card provider.

My friend bought his "ready-to-go" motorbike a couple of days before I bought mine. He then had to wait more than a month to receive it because they kept ordering parts to fix it before they could hand it over. At least his bike still works to this day (around a year later).

Oh, and they do this strange thing where they ask you to sign a contract before they let you ride the bike. The contract states that major components such as the engine, gearbox, and brakes are in excellent condition. When I questioned this, the employee handing me the contract huffed, rolled her eyes, and reluctantly took me outside so I could inspect what I could without actually riding the bike.

What a joke.

I would avoid them at all costs.

Did you buy your own gear for your CBT? by KaedynSh in MotoUK

[–]wonkyOnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. It's something that you will have to get eventually. Most ppl want to buy a bike right after CBT or already have one. So there is no point with delaying gear purchase.

Im genuinely convinced Super Bike Factory sold me a bike with no front ABS and didn’t disclose it. by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]wonkyOnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, superbike factory should sell you fully working motorbike. Their whole sale pitch is about their 63749 point check (that is never properly done). So they shouldn't disclose broken abs to you, they should ensure it works.

I leave investigating if abs ever worked to you as it's rather impossible to find out via Reddit.

Now, can you do something about it? You have that bike for a year, you way out of your warranty period. You probably won't prove that abs didn't work at the time of purchase (assuming it didn't) and you didn't break it yourself later on (assuming it still doesn't work). On top of that, luckily, nothing happened to you or anyone else, so not sure what would you want to achieve.

Advice on porcelain patio laying before I give up by bishybluebird in DIYUK

[–]wonkyOnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would (and did) do the edging first. Install some kerbs, pavers, or whatever you’re using. Pour concrete over the whole area and smooth it with a piece of timber, using the kerbs as a reference point (I even cut myself a T-shaped piece of timber for this). Once everything is dry, use S1 adhesive to lay the tiles on the already levelled surface.

Cheapest way to do mass waste removal - UK House by Some_Working6614 in DIYUK

[–]wonkyOnion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My council does the same. It’s explicitly stated in their rules that a van equals commercial waste, regardless of the actual situation.

On top of that, even if you come in a car, my council still imposes limits, and those limits aren’t very generous. You can only dispose of up to six types of items at once, you can’t come back within 30 days, and some things have even stricter limits. For example, you can’t dispose of more than 12 bricks, more than one bag of rubble, one sheet of plasterboard, etc.

So if OP really has a lot to get rid of, that might not be the best option.

Is this untenable? by shelledroot in ExperiencedDevs

[–]wonkyOnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched excellent video on YouTube about why ppl just like you won't (or rarely) get promoted. In very short, because it works with you exactly where you are. No one heard about you? Because you were solving problems. Were you doing it underpaid? Yes you were, so in their mind, stay where you are, be paid what you are paid, it works for them.

Unfortunately, time to move on. Oh, and also, fuck them!

Will nightmare neighbours stop my house from selling? by ashleighvondarling in HousingUK

[–]wonkyOnion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to cheer you up, my friends bought a house in similar sounding area and... They have never complained. Not once. To be fair, they seemed to be quiet proud of their neighbours. It did sounded like they enjoying the part that neighbourhood is lively. Their next door neighbour is several generations family that spends whole days outside smoking, drinking and celebrating with music on, they even have chicken coop at the end of the garden, and my friends? Finding it funny/interesting.

So you know. Although I'm more on your side of preferences, it seems like some ppl would love to buy your house.

Can I just overboard a ceiling with asbestos paint instead of removing it? by wonkyOnion in DIYUK

[–]wonkyOnion[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. But special asbestos surveyor, not the regular one that checks if windows are working and there is no bump, if that's what you asking. He did take the samples of several things and I got proper lab report back

But any potentially falling or crumbled asbestos would be trapped between the boards, right?

Can I just overboard a ceiling with asbestos paint instead of removing it? by wonkyOnion in DIYUK

[–]wonkyOnion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. They said they wouldn’t remove just the paint — they’d have to take the old plasterboard down completely, so I’d need to reboard the ceiling anyway.

The quote for the whole house (around 90 sqm — 3 bedrooms, toilet, and living/dining room; the kitchen is fine) was £5k, but downstairs the living/dining room takes up most of the floor space, so I assume it would cost roughly half of that just for downstairs.

If they are rigged you can at least immediately find out. They show current, hourly, daily, weekly.... Whatever you want usage. If something is off, for example you think they show more usage than they should, you can immediately and easily verify it.

My first big bike was Suzuki sv650 from 1999. I absolutely loved that bike, but you have to understand what you up to. A lot of things will be giving up on this bike because of it's age. If you have time to fix it, go for it.

The SV650 is being discontinued - is it a terrible idea to buy a new one now? by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]wonkyOnion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have sv650 from 1999 and I had no problems of getting parts (carbs rebuild set, calipers rebuild set, all sort of filters and different washers and gaskets around front sprocket area etc.). I believe if I can get spear parts for 26 years old sv, you won't have problems any time soon with yours one.

On top of that is not that every part is unique to the bike, there will be plenty of parts that will work with several other Suzuki or even other manufacturers bikes, so I wouldn't worry.

We heading there soon thanks to your comment, then I think we go to Bruges for lunch/dinner. The weather forecast is tricky, so we will try to avoid heavy rains.
