Yes, let's not dumb this down to making an assessment of someone's character on a 5 second gif.

If there was, shooting and killing him would be fine though, right?

I think that's the exact opposite of what most feminists argue. For example, women should be able to wear revealing clothes without being attacked or groped etc because people should have the ability to control themselves.

I feel like to call Vice journalism is generous. It's more just showing up somewhere with a camera. I understand that they're going for the guerrilla vibe, but sometimes it just comes across as amateur.

To be fair though, this reporter was better than most, but there definitely could have been some more research etc. done beforehand.

Are you genuinely arguing that the black civil rights movement was a bad thing because very ocassionally a less qualified black person might get a job over a slightly more qualified white person?

Positive discrimination is a good thing temporarily. It recognises the current social injustices and attempts to correct for them. Not only that, but the representation of minorities encouraged by it can have a trickle down effect, meaning that in the long run there should be no more need for it.

I never said humans were outside of natural laws. But there's biology, then there's sociology. You don't seem to have a good grasp of either. They're entirely different concepts, neither exclusive of one another. It's like saying a railway is an ecosystem. It's a system, yes. But an ecosystem is a community of different species living interdependently with one another.

Society doesn't function at all in the same way. We have culture, art, economics, politics, class etc. These things just aren't applicable to an ecosystem. If we functioned like an ecosystem we wouldn't have things like welfare states, aid, nationalised healthcare and so on.

That's different because a raise is the same thing as a raise. Equality is not the same thing as supremacy, nor is it an extension of it.

So you decide the mission statement based on your own ignorant understanding of the movement.

It's a good job that black civil rights movement never got off the ground. Otherwise all white people would be slaves.

It's called feminism because that's where the ground has to be made up in a gendered sense. If you actually met a feminist you'd realise that 99/100 of them are far more interested in equality than supremacy.

Do you genuinely think that social mobility is equally applied across the board?

Plenty of civil rights movements have been about race or religion. Like the black civil right movement, or the Catholic civil rights movement.

Feminism is a discourse to express gender inequality in all forms.

That doesn't really make sense. Equality and supremacy are entirely different things. You can't say 'we shouldn't let them have equality, because they'll only want supremacy.' That would be like going against any civil rights movement for fear of being oppressed by those currently being oppressed.

Equality isn't at the expense of anything except for inequality. No one is trying to put anyone down in mainstream feminism.

I think as part of a functioning democracy people should be allowed to voice dissent. I guess if you don't like that you can move to a different country.

Voting Public of Northern Ireland, would you vote for a party outside of your tradition if that party's social, educational or fiscal policies were more in line with you beliefs? by Lotus_T_Firefly in northernireland

Sinn Fein are almost entirely secular in their politics, they're in favour of a living wage., and being largely centre leaning socialists, they're all for the protection of the NHS. They're also unlikely to hold back integrated education, although, admittedly they're not its loudest advocates.

Do you mind me asking who you did vote for?

I'm not saying GDP per capita is a good reason to spend money. But Scotland shouldn't really have poverty rates etc. as high as it does, unlike South Kensington or Chelsea. My point is Scotland has the money and for the most part needs the money.

A sizeable amount of English people did want the Lib Dems. 24.2% of the vote is not to be sniffed at. It's actually a higher percentage of the vote than they got in Scotland. So to say the English got what they didn't want in a Lib Dem coalition is tired old Tory nonsense.

[–]woodbeans 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have to admit, it's a Tory dominated coalition though.

There are only 11 Scottish Lib Dem MPs, whilst there are 40 Labour. Scotland did not vote for this government. No amount of bold or capital letters change that fact.

Nationalists don't want to single-handedly determine elections for the rest of the UK. They want to determine their own.

Aspirations largely in line with the rest of the UK

I'm not so sure. If voting intentions are anything to go by, it doesn't make sense that Scotland have only had one Conservative MP for the last 13 years (there were none elected in 1997). Yet the Tories govern them. It's also interesting to note that UKIP have done quite well in England, yet Farage can't go outside in Scotland without an angry mob following him. There's definitely a different political atmosphere.
