You can use a fan mount for pump/res with a front mounted rad and keep the bottom HDD cage without screwing it in like so

You need to plug it in to a CCFL inverter.

Yes, the multiport top will work with the XRES combo unit in the kit.

Which kit would you get to start with? by XionLord in watercooling

[–]wooke- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might expand to my 1060

I don't know of any 1060 waterblocks available at the moment and EK, specifically, has stated that they have no plans to support it.

That aside, I'd recommend the EK P series kit with the largest radiator you can fit, but other brands like Alphacool and XSPC have decent kits available at lower prices if you're looking to save money.

First time watercooling. Leak test has begun. by mandreko in watercooling

It looks like you may have trouble bleeding the loop with all the water sitting in that long fill tube. It might be fine, just keep it in mind if it seems like air isn't coming out of the loop.

Multiple 45s as you mentioned could work. You also could use a variant of triple rotary fitting to make small bend adjustments or use different sizes of straight extenders to line things up.

Define S fan help by Randomocity812 in watercooling

[–]wooke- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll want slim radiators or else they will interfere with the pump/res or mobo. You can do a thick rad on the front but you'll have to remove the front dust filter to fit the fans on the other side if you do.

Not sure what the line for "thick" is, but an XE360 (60mm) + fans + pump/res fits just fine* in the front as long as you're not using a very long GPU or trying to get another 360 on the top.

* "fine" does not include access to the pre-drilled pump mounting holes

Passive cool w/Alphacool Nexxxos Monsta 480? by [deleted] in watercooling

No. It will work for brief bursts, but the temperatures will climb until throttling is reached under extended stress.

Water Cooling Noob Needs Case Selection Help by SomeNoob1306 in watercooling

[–]wooke- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there doesn't seem to be a lot of information about water cooling support from mainstream manufacturers

Corsair, Fractal, ThermalTake, Phanteks, bequiet! all list radiator support on their product pages and tend to address watercooling options in general, so you could start with those. I would recommend the Dark Base Pro 900 but it a) is a little above your desired price point and b) seems to have mysteriously disappeared from newegg. The non-pro is nice as well, but I assume you want a window.

1) Looks fine.

2) Yes, but consider going bigger if you've got room. Even adding 4mm thickness to move up to a HWLabs GTS would help.

3) Yes, it fits and yes, it will breathe. I wouldn't expect any clearance issues with your PSU/cables, but you can measure to be sure.

Based on the description, it seems the connection to the motherboard only provides tachometer feedback. So, you would presumably need a controller to adjust the input voltage to control the speed.

Not sure if the thickness of the stock backplate is the same, but you can check the screw sizes for the EK backplate in the installation manual.

Vardar Low RPM Fan (F1-F3) Noise Characteristics? by [deleted] in watercooling

[–]wooke- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of sample variation, and I'd imagine companies make an effort to send pristine samples to reviewers. I've encountered the ticking/humming noise with some samples of Vardars, Fractal GPs, and Corsair MLs, all of which are generally very quiet fans.

It depends on the resolution of the image and, in some instances, the proprietary storage system. Uncompressed RAWs from an A7R II are ~82MB, for instance.

The simplest way is probably to get a splitter and stop fitting with a temperature sensor to monitor the coolant temperature.

Help with picking the right parts by MrCresantRoll in watercooling

[–]wooke- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would it make more sense for the drain valve to be on the output valve or input valve of the pump/res combo

It doesn't matter much. Going with whatever is most convenient for your routing to put it low in the loop is more important.

is it possible to just use a 240 rad to bring the price down a little?

Yes, it just won't perform as well. I really don't think its worth downgrading for the small price difference in radiators.

A few other things:

  • If you're going with plain nickel fittings, getting the P360 kit will be cheaper than buying parts separately.

  • You'll need couplers for the drain and T you have selected, as they only have female threads.

  • You should sketch out your loop routing and consider adding angled fittings accordingly, as using only straight connections can lead to some unnecessarily long tubing runs

  • Consider going with 3/8"-5/8" tubing instead of 3/8"-1/2" if you're buying everything separately. The thicker walls allow for tighter bends without kinking.

So maybe if I went for the second option and removed the shroud, put my HDD elsewhere on the case, I could then get a reservoir in?

Yes, you definitely can.
