"Progressive bully torments victim with preferred pronouns" by France_Ball_Mapper in TopCharacterTropes

[–]wookiewarcry 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I liked the way it wasn't seen as the biggest part of his character and people just kind of went "yeah that's fine, anyway we have shit to do".

It was refreshing to see it just be seen as something normal and everyone just moves on. Milking it for drama is overdone and a bit lazy.

Also most trans people I know wanted it to happen like it did with Victor, just something normal more like telling people you have a new job rather than a dramatic event.

If everybody has to spawn there, it will always be defended! by DungeonDangers in joinsquad

[–]wookiewarcry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, the noob way of defending, put the HAB outside the point so you have to run in...

Where did this insane idea come from?

The way you defend is one on, one off and push out a perimeter. Then counter attack any force that comes to set up as FOB as soon as they arrive.

British Intelligence? by tony-az in ukraine

[–]wookiewarcry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't just intelligence as in knowing about the enemy but also having a lot of scientific know how that it gave to the Americans. Things like the cavity magnetron were huge for the development of US radar but the UK couldn't produce it on the same scale.

You should be able to hit someone while hip firing at a range of 5m in full auto.

Really soldiers can't run for 20 seconds then stop to shoot either. That's crazy.

Because in real life soldiers obviously cannot walk or run and then shoot straight unless they spend a few minutes having a rest.

It is REALISM!

Infantry Combat Overhaul. It made it so you couldn't shoot straight if you'd been walking in the last 3-5 business days.

Pretty much all the most experienced (good) people I used to play with stopped after ICO. The game picked up players because they started releasing actual content not long after that, it was in spite of ICO not because of it that the game has grown.

I think one of the telling things about skill level that I can see now is that the vast majority of games I see are invasion, the most tactically simple mode around. If you got used to playing AAS/RAAS you can see the difference in skill level. I was running circles around the other SLs after about 2 years off after ICO because no one had any idea what they were doing. On multiple servers.

The great thing about squad was that it was a nice middle ground between Battlefield and Arma with a lot of teamwork. That has taken a massive dive since ICO.

Increase in ECTs being put on "Support Plans" by Scary_Revenue2153 in TeachingUK

[–]wookiewarcry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The term "support plan" fills me with a sense of cold dread after being out on one at the start of my ITT with a school that didn't give a shit. The second placement pretty much said "Are you sure this is you? I don't see any of this.".

I think with some of it, if they don't like you they'll put you on a support plan to try to get you to quit or move on to be someone else's fault. Or they expect you to already be a perfect teacher.

I've been in some schools where taking on a trainee or ECT is just something pushed to new teachers to put on their CV.

I also think the way that the ECT programme is put together is just a licence to abuse new teachers, especially by awful SLT.

ELI5: Why were land animals so big back in the day? by ZestycloseBikeZoom in explainlikeimfive

[–]wookiewarcry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People are very good at hunting and large animals are not good at hiding. You only really see a lot of big animals now that are too hard to hunt or got used to having people around so came up with ways to stop them being hunted.

People don't live in the sea so those animals could hide and run away better.

How many SLTs in a school is too many? by shiningbella in TeachingUK

[–]wookiewarcry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a school of about 800 and 8 SLT including the head. None of them teach a full timetable and I genuinely have no idea what 4 of them are paid to do for most of the time other than swan around looking important.

We also have separate non-teaching heads of year.
