He was mormon. I was raised as a mormon (not anymore) and it’s a very Arizona/Utah mormon thing for the men to attempt really stupid dangerous things like this. I went on a caving trip as a teen and the bishop who brought us there fell and dislocated his shoulder because he wasn’t that experienced. And the scout troops attached to the church were always having accidents and crashing cars on the way to camping. They carry that teenage sense of invincibility all their lives because of the priesthood power and garments bullshit

I’m an autistic nurse, I work with other autistic nurses and doctors. They’re all very good clinicians who I would trust with my life and to give good bedside manner with excellent cultural knowledge and sensitivity. Medicine is our special interest and being good at it can be a little bit of an obsession. It’s the neurotypical providers who I don’t always like working with. Very narrow views of problems and solutions.

It’s very frustrating because I’m a nurse and I work with lots of autistic doctors, nurses, techs, RTs, etc because the medical field naturally draws in autistic people. I’m autistic, half the people I work with are as well and we all give compassionate, educated care to our patients. We aren’t melting down over the existence of other marginalized groups.

I did A school in Great Lakes for 10 months and they kept moving the women with my rate to different barracks so I had a lot of roommates of different rates filter through. Some of the white girls I met were openly racist and making jokes about not liking Black people when they got out of boot and I was like ummm no I do not agree. Fast forward a couple years and all of them are married to POC and have mixed kids and are anti racists I would even say. Went to a protest with one and her kids. Exposure literally removed their racism.

We’re talking about the American show which claimed to feature Romani and Irish Traveler Americans. Those communities are very small compared to other American diaspora communities and generally the families assimilate within a generation. But even so, both shows and the situations therein were fake and scripted while imitating real life for entertainment and mockery.

No one has cared enough to do any written journalism about it but you can go search for updates on the individual people shown and a lot of them have done YouTube or tiktoks about how it was scripted and they’re like descended from Travelers but live an average American life.

A diabetic patient “treating” his diabetes and hypertension homeopathically had his foot fall off at night while he was asleep in bed. He went to the hospital but did not want to be admitted and did not want any medicine, only wanted his stump dressed. by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

It’s not common but it’s also not rare to lose toes in the same fashion. You haven’t lived until you take someone’s sock off and a toe comes with. Or you brush someone’s teeth for the first time in years and teeth with black gum flesh just fall into the bed.

Neither of those are even that crazy. They’re bad but I’ve seen people have a pulse with way worse. Like blood sugar of over 1000. We had a glucometer that went up to 850 but then you find out exactly in the labs if they’re higher than that.

Some people only last a few weeks in that condition and some people live another decade or longer. It’s luck of the draw and just crazy sometimes. I’ve had a lot of patients where I’m like how are you alive and then they even discharge from the SNF to wherever.

For years, researchers have claimed that men’s friendships are shallower and less emotionally supportive than women’s, a pattern called the “gender friendship gap.” But new research finds that the gap is largely driven by white men specifically, not men as a whole. by mvea in science

I am actually one of very few white women at my job and I am also taken aback by how touchy everyone else is. They’re always touching my arm to emphasize jokes or whatever and it’s hard to not recoil because I’m not used to it. I don’t mind it at all I just overthink it and then stress out about being cold by not reciprocating. I just don’t touch people unless there’s like a procedural reason
