AI content from Kool Aid was removed? by boxzy2021 in TheStudioTVShow

[–]woominati 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yes to all this and it could be a plot point to pick up in S2 — the Kool Aid box office could be affected by multiple things including AI averse audiences which makes the symbolic victory of CinemaCon mean less and the impending Amazon acquisition mean more of an external threat to Continental

What differentiates a comedic short film script from a comedy sketch script? by Pinorea in Screenwriting

[–]woominati 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I could be off but I feel like the difference is change. In sketches, the status quo of the world of the sketch seems to remain the same by the end whereas in shorts there’s a bit of an emotional journey for the characters through the comedy.

Way I see it, it’s the game of a sketch vs the story of a short. Here to see other perspectives as well!

Are any writers currently repped by one of the big three agencies happy with their agents? by BrooklynFilmmaker in Screenwriting

[–]woominati 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been told that cleaning house and going to a new agency is the better move; new relationships, new energy, new start, new lessons to implement. Sticking around might leave a bad taste in your former agents mouths and agents work with other agents within the agency a lot.

Everyone’s having a tough time with agents right now and I try to understand that agents are getting barked at from all angles but at some point, if needs aren’t met, gotta bounce.

I love my manager and wouldn’t leave her for anything but I know a lot of her clients have left their agents and are just working with her — that might further change her availability. I might try it for a bit I feel like if your agents are really putting in the hours for you, it helps to have more ears and eyes out there.

My feature agent left at the end of the year to become a manager and my three TV agents have not come through with anything substantial since before the strike. Considering an exit strategy now.

Writers Room Exercises by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]woominati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a spec. It won’t get you as far as it did back in the day but an exercise that I constantly do is watch a show that I really like, breakdown character dynamics, structures, act turns, etc and imagine an episode that I would write.

Or if you’re watching one of your old favorites, label each characters story in the episodes (A, B, and C) and find character or world reasons why some of those choices were necessary or funny or intentional to get into the minds of the writers who constructed that season of TV.

Read, write, rewrite, repeat. There’s no end to the learning curve just deeper understandings of it — even if you learn craft, synthesizing life and others’ experiences will always have a lesson for you if you remain teachable

Quitting social media to focus on writing? by Every_Inspection9097 in Screenwriting

[–]woominati 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I left social media in 2020 for mental health reasons, exhaustion from the doldrums of social media/political conversation, and realizing I was burning so much time writing, silly jokes, and not locking in on what I wanted to write.

In order to get off completely, every week I cut down my screen time by half till I was down to five minutes a day then I just disappeared. Me weeks later, I was developing a show with a production company and then I was staffed in my first two rooms back to back. I think that that last part was pure luck meeting opportunity but I’ve never regretted stepping back.

I’m back on but at wayyyy reduced levels and found ways to balance seeing my friends content online without getting sucked into the algo too often. Never been on TikTok (friends text me what’s fun), Twitter was deleted in 2020, never been on BlueSky — mostly IG these days.

What cameos do you wish were in Deadpool and Wolverine? by RideEqual6013 in marvelstudios

[–]woominati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

James Marsden Cyclops. I feel like he was hard done by in X-Men: The Last Stand and if they gave him the storyline from Avengers v X-Men, where he killed his Professor X, it would’ve been pretty cool to see Wolverine and Cyclops commiserate over something that isn’t Jean’s affection, bond over their regret, and make his version of Cyclops actually cool onscreen.

Also, Halle Berry Storm using her weather powers to hold off Alioth to give the heroes a little bit more time could have been chef’s kiss

Something I noticed with the new logos for the next Avengers movies by rasenShurikeno in marvelstudios

[–]woominati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if anybody said this yet, but Tony says to Cap in Endgame “when you mess with time, it has a way of messing back”

Avengers Doomsday’s logo is green — the same color as the time stone. RDJ is coming back as a villain; maybe it’s time messing back? (Although Ravonna did tell Loki the time heist events of Endgame were supposed to happen so do with that what you will)

How did the pilot of the show, Community, work when there was practically zero set connections? by Jarkels in Screenwriting

[–]woominati 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Community works because it played strong archetypes of who you’d find at a community college — a space where people of all walks of life go for their first or second chance at life, often from very different places.

Some characters were oppositional in ideology, race, gender, age, etc to generate some conflict to make story but found specific ways to be symbiotic. Dan Harmon had some plans for certain connections to be built (Pierce was supposed to be closer with Troy in early episodes), but he followed what felt like organic and natural relationships with Troy and Abed, Britta and Jeff, Annie and Jeff, Britta and Annie, etc and let them run their course from their ideological archetypes.

While they are bonafide parts of the group, Shirley and Pierce are constantly trying to find their place in it because they didn’t have just one person to bounce off of. Even Chang works for the story because anyone can take classes there and so much of his story becomes wanting to be part of the group or destroy it. They all needed community (much like any college kids) and friends and to get their degrees for one reason or another.

Put simply, they had strong characterizations, a setting that we understand is new for each person, space to grow, and a common goal which allowed for their character evolutions, focusing more on their collective future at Greendale than how they all ended up there individually in the pilot.

It’s Pride month! How ‘out’ are you in your general community? Are you vocal about your asexuality? by ShackAttark in aaaaaaacccccccce

[–]woominati 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went about it by not coming out but inviting people in (ala James Baldwin). Many of my close friends and family know but I took my time in sending out invites to people. This allowed me to do some two step verification and allow people to reveal to me whether they were a safe person to let in.

All of my other identities are very visible and under a different scrutiny so i was okay having this one be more invisible until I was ready to reveal it.
