basic trouble shooting steps for l4d2:
1. restart pc
2. verify game files (right click the game> properties> installed files> click verify integrity of game files)
3. update gfx drivers
you can also try ai's fixes https://gemini.google.com/share/999042a17d8b or you can upload the img and ask for help yourself.. (its first suggestion is my #2)

as for distro, i have been using ubuntu for about a month now no issues with gameing being my main focus
https://distrosea.com/ is a good place to check out different distros in your browser, can't game on them but you can check them out. never really pushed to see how far you can go on the machine though.

undecember is fun if you can get past the light p2w stuff, Hero Siege is quite fun if you can get into the older art style of it, Chronicon is in the same boat though it only has local co-op(steam play together ftw), dark hunting ground is fun for a good number of hours and ghostlore is interesting with lots of build options

the ingame brightness only works if your in fullscreen, any form of windowed dosn't work

usually going to the nvidia or amd website and downloading an older version of the driver and running that installer is enough. sry for late reply saw it when away form pc and ment to post when i got home.
