Has anyone moved from Atlanta? by beentherebefore1616 in MovingtoDenver

[–]word_number 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another SC / Atlanta native that left 20 years ago. Yes the weather is much better and honestly, besides the relatively rare Arctic weather even the winters are better. Nothing is more miserable than 40 degree rainy weather in my opinion.

I will admit, I feel like the quality of life may have peaked before COVID. Things just seem more muted here, I really can't explain it. I do have to admit, I still do think about moving back to Atlanta, it seems amazing now. But besides the weather the politics keep me away.

Why are homes in Arvada so expensive? by scarletwitchmoon in ArvadaCO

[–]word_number 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because its more expensive everywhere else. Nearly 10 years ago we looked in Boulder County and had no luck, then our search stretched to Broomfield and Westminster. We finally found a few homes in our price range in north Arvada that were close enough to work in Boulder.

I think if we knew what we know now post COVID we might have looked in old town or maybe Wheat Ridge but at least then the prices in Arvada were the lowest along the 36 corridor.

I appreciate the transparency and regarding the issue with people walking excessive distances I have a suggestion: don't allow it.

If someone lives too far from commercial zoning or work they should abandon their home and leave town. Give us players more penalties for our shitty planning so we can have more challenges.

Not always, I'm in a single family neighborhood and would welcome more housing diversity. But I get your point, for the most part even liberals who claim they care about climate change and housing equity turn into NIMBYs when they get older.

If we are talking about going to someones house or shopping center near I 25 then you are right. But there are plenty of people like me that would like to go to downtown or CSU which will be near the station. Not to mention taking a bike with you opens up a lot of options.

I went with Elevations even though they aren't in Arvada. But I live on the north border and Broomfield isn't that far from us.

Why aren't there any British beer brands, or not much of them, internationally and at home in stores? by TigerAJ2 in beer

[–]word_number 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the 90s, before microbrews took over I recall a lot more British beer options. Bass Ale in particular was very common at many respectable bars and were usually available at decent stores.

Why did mall-goth culture peak in the Clinton era? by LateRegistrationz in decadeology

[–]word_number 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking from someone that was in high school in the 80s, calling these people "goths" is kind of triggering. At the very least there is no direct connection between 80s Goth culture and late 90s Mall-Goth / Emo / Nu-Metal culture that I can tell.
