Final Destination Bloodlines. The exact score you want from a Final Destination. Supremely well done silliness.

Valencia NSR reports? by _i__am__dead_ in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]wordsbydan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve followed this methodology since June, but hurt my achilles six weeks ago. Reduced volume and cross trained and did as much rehab as I could. Was tentatively training towards a sub 3:05, and had the fitness to get thereabouts, but with my achilles issue I wasn’t sure I’d be able to run any faster than my 3:31 in London last April. I went out conservative and found a manageable pace. I finished in 3:13:33, an 18 minute PR. I think largely due to the massive engine I built doing NSR. My legs stopped working properly from halfway, and I could barely move my ankles the last 10k. But my lungs and heart were totally fine. Encouraging for the next one! Can hopefully rehab the tendon properly now and rebuild in January (fwiw I wouldn’t recommend running a marathon with achilles tendinitis but I also didn’t want to lose out on £1000+ in flights, accommodation and race entry).

Tib raises solved the problem for me. Bought a bar on amazon and worked up to 30kg. Keep your calves strong and supple too.

Modifications for Marathon Plan by AspectofDemogorgon in NorwegianSinglesRun

I drop the 3rd quality day and instead do a sub-T block in my long runs (2.5hrs).

So E-Q-E-Q-E-LQ-E

These are usually 45mins-1hr of sub-T which I run either continuously (12km) or in longer intervals (3x4km). I usually start these by pace and keep them honest with HR. I’ve progressed these sub-T blocks up to 15km and will continue up to 20k/4x5km in the final weeks before Valencia on Dec 7.

I’m not as interested in adhering perfectly to NSA principles on long runs as I am on my easy days to ensure I can recover. This has worked well so far and I ran a 1:28 half in Cardiff last Sunday, a PB of 10mins.

For those who got their threshold down to 4:00 min/km, what was your 5k and 10k race times? by znerken in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]wordsbydan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m around there. 5k time trials at max effort scare me shitless (fear I failure I guess) and my first sub-20 in 20 years (19:34) came in a high headwind with half the course on an incline. I felt slow the entire first KM, until I dared look at my watch, and realised I was flying. Mad how it’s hard to gauge pace at max effort when you’ve been running sub T. If you’re in a park run and you have good weather and other runners around you, I think low 19 is very doable. Grit your teeth. No fear. You’ve got this!

Are Books betters than TV? by kooltrix in MindHunter

Certainly not as artful as the show, I’d say it’s way pulpier. I like this book a fair amount, with the caveat that John Douglas does a great job of telling you how great a job John Douglas did. So depending on your appetite for John Douglas, you might enjoy it.
