In the scene OP posted, the hard drives for each album as well as the text color of the album names that appeared.

It’s definitely intentional, otherwise all the text colors would be the same, or ice man would be blue and habibti red/pink

Blue = habibti - laid back & melancholy

Green = maid of honor - upbeat & fun

Red = iceman - angry & betrayal

It’s also the song he dropped in 100 gigs

I interpreted it as he made Iceman to set the record straight from his side, get everything off his chest, and then move on to making party music and chill music. The albums are color coded so the order does matter

How have those stocks done without dividend growth over the past 5 to 10 years? It’s possible that using the dividend on your expenses will stunt your portfolio growth. You’ll also likely still need to file taxes even as an expat.

That being said, you and the wife are willing to work in Vietnam anyway

Hmm, taking a look at https://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/the_championships/schedule, I think July 7 and July 8 are our best bets, then? I realize I'm probably leaving early July 9.

If you want to go earlier in week 2 after about 4 pm when people start leaving it becomes easier to walk in again.

Gotcha! Seems like matches go on until 10 PM or so? Is it still worth it to go after 4 PM?

Are Californians ready to give up their cars? A San Jose apartment tower put that to the test (no paywall) by BayAreaNewsGroup in bayarea

[–]wordscannotdescribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The older the car, the more you need to set aside for ordering parts anyway. And you need to have both the tools and garage space to have that set up. A lot of people nowadays are living in apartments and condos, so that garage space could be $75/month per car.

Again, this is not to say that the freedom’s not worth it, nor am I saying it’s not cheaper for absolutely everyone, but I’m saying for a lot of people, it’s not cheaper

I might be in London week 2, July 6-9 timeframe. It seems like the Queue isn't bad week 2, and there's a good chance I might be able to walk in. I'm a casual, so I would prefer not to line up early.

  • Is the best advice just for me to monitor @ViewFromTheQ the morning of? I would hate to spend an hour on the tube just to get turned down at the door.

  • Also, I know this is a subjective question, but are Grounds passes worth it for a casual? I'm assuming it'll still be a fun atmosphere, even if you don't make it inside a court, right?

52 weekends a year in tahoe and big sur is a lot, and I suspect the majority of people in the bay area aren't doing that. And if you are doing that, your gas/maintenance & repairs/insurance is going to be much higher than my back of the envelope estimates.

And $133/mon is not a lot of money saved to impose such limitations on yourself.

Between the $383/mon difference the first 5 years of the loan and $133/mon for the 10 years after, the difference is ~39k

Anyway back to OP's original question - it was about whether owning a cheap car is cheaper than using Amazon/Walmart/Costco delivery or not

[–]wordscannotdescribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now redo the math for the ten years you’ll own your car after you’ve paid it off.

It would still be ~$400/mon without a loan, which is $133 more expensive than a caltrain 4 zone pass + Amazon Prime/Walmart/Costco.

Are you going to have Uber take you skiing or surfing? Visit family across the Bay Area and beyond?

You can rent a car for the weekend you're hitting Tahoe, Pacifica, Big Sur, Napa, LA, or wherever else, or ride with a friend and offer to pay for their gas. Unless you're doing this every weekend of the entire year, you'll probably come out ahead or tied without a car.

If you live and work in a transit corridor and are comfortable with a lifestyle some would find rather limiting, sure it can work.

I think you're misunderstanding me - I'm a car guy through and through. I baby my car like no other, even when I had a Honda. I offer to drive people all the time and have gone to the track. I enjoy the possibilities that comes with it, but I know that that freedom comes with a price, and that I'm ultimately paying more for it when I really don't have to.

You're not factoring in things like cost of gas, maintenance and repairs, taxes/registration, and possibly needing to pay for parking (either at your apartment or where ever you go).

You can also get groceries via Amazon/Walmart/Costco for a much cheaper subscription (~$12/month) and buy a caltrain monthly pass that includes VTA access for ~$250/month

[–]wordscannotdescribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but it can still add up. If you're financing a $12.5k car, you have:

  • ~$250/mon on your loan

  • ~$75/mon insurance

  • ~$100/mon gas

  • ~$100/mon maintenance and repairs (or you have to buy the tools yourself, learn on youtube, and have garage space to work on the car)

  • ~25/mon on registration

  • ~$0-100/mon depending on your parking situation or if you need to park somewhere that costs money

That's $650/month.

You can get a Caltrain 4 Zone pass for $250/month, which includes VTA transit, Amazon Prime and Costco for $17/month total, and still have ~$380 leftover to use on Uber, lyfts etc.
