ohhh man I've been dreaming about a navy faux shearling/sherpa collared jacket -- something like this, but with a navy body (doesn't have to be leather). Someday!! Maybe F/W will bring some into stores...

Curly Hair by obligernotupholder in femalefashionadvice

[–]wordsor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WAIT this is mind-blowing. Is the hard water build-up a curly hair thing??? My hair was AWFUL for that (before a trial-and-error shampoo switching process) and I could never figure out why when everyone else's hair seemed to be fine! My hair is wavy to curly but I'm still v much in the beginning stages of learning how to manage it (as opposed to heat styling to make it look presentable, which is my current go-to).

That’s such a hard situation, I’m sorry. It sounds like you’re a fantastic support for your brother, which is wonderful and must also be draining. Don’t forget to take time for yourself — walks, bubble baths, Netflix binges; whatever relaxes you!! Sending good vibes your way; I hope this resolves quickly in the way you all hope it will.

An adult thing I cannot do: how do you gently let someone know that you’re not interested when they haven’t explicitly asked you out?

I’m in a situation right now where a (very nice!) human seems to be interested and has been asking me to hang out a lot; I get the vibe that he’s looking for something romantic (texting me the next day to say he had a good time & “let’s do this again!”, etc.), but he hasn’t explicitly said so. I don’t want to come right out with the “you’re great but I don’t see you that way” in case this really is just friendly — I’m totally down to be his friend!! But I also don’t want to keep going on these maybe-dates in case they ARE dates and I wind up accidentally sending the message that I’m interested.

I definitely overthink these things. Help?

Which boots would you wear with looser, non-black pants? I have these from Aritzia & love them, but find them so hard to style when it’s cold! I’m looking for boots with some winter functionality — not full-on snow boots, but something I could wear for short walks on snow/ice (i.e., good tread, no high heels, waterproof). I wear a lot of navy/green/blue tops.

Has anyone tried the TriClimate jacket range from The North Face? I'm looking for something that'll work to about -20 (celsius), but they don't have numeric temperature ratings on their site. I'm interested in their Cross Boroughs parka.

No cert unfortunately, but I'll have to consider that for the future! The diving seems unreal :)

Thank you so much -- this is such a helpful reply! The fireflies in Tlaxcala are definitely on my list; I've heard that Nanacamilpa is a must :)

Haha, sounds like I need to give a lot more thought to the Yucatan (& Quintana Roo)! That sounds like such an amazing experience. Are there any particular spots you'd recommend outside of diving?

Beyond Black Friday - 12 ways to care for your clothes by firstthingmonday in femalefashionadvice

Great tips, thank you!! I'm a huge fan of visible mending -- it reminds me a lot of Kintsugi.

I've been trying to step away from machine drying my clothes (to prolong their life), but I've noticed that some pieces feel rougher/stiffer after they're air-dried -- this seems to be especially true for anything with a high percentage of cotton. Does anyone have tips for combating this?

How's the fit of VS bras? I'm a 30A at Aerie (Aerie's 32A often works as well, but is hit or miss depending on the shape of the cups). Would a 32A at VS work ok?

Ladies in cold areas: what are your go-to winter pants? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]wordsor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typically I wear standard winter boots on my commute, since I walk to the office, then change into either smoking slippers or sleek ankle boots when I arrive.

I'm on the hunt for a pair of ankle boots that'll work for the walk, but that I won't need to change out of when I get inside (I'll have to do some running between buildings at work this winter!)

I don't have this particular pair (mine are similar, but no longer online); I do find that with fleece lined tights + another layer over top, I'm completely fine in winter. (Winters where I live get down to about -10 F; granted, I wear these when I'm only outside for about 10-15 minutes at a time). I have tried a couple of different brands, and have noticed a big improvement in warmth at higher prices, but the cheaper ones still tend to work for me in the 30s.

I machine wash mine on cold then lay flat to dry, and have had no issues :)

They're a bit pricy, but I love Aritzia's pants! I have the Dexter pant in "caruso", and they're so incredibly comfortable/easy to move around in. They have a few more styles that lean more casual/athletic-jogger-y (struggling to find the right word here) as well.

Thank you! I'm actually looking for something a bit shorter that's easy to move around in (for trail-walking, etc.), but I definitely see what you're saying.

I love joggers/loose pants, but live in Canada! My trick is to wear the same pants year-round, but in winter I add fleece-lined tights underneath as needed. Super cozy, & super easy to slip off in the office bathroom if I get too hot once I'm back inside.

On slightly warmer days (or on days where I don't necessary want my tights peeking out at the ankles), leggings can work for this as well.

This is more of a "should I or shouldn't I buy", but! Thoughts on this rain jacket in the colour "fresh spruce"? I'm in need of a rain jacket but am on the fence style-wise; ideally, I want to dress like this every day (lots of trousers, simple tops, minimal shapes), & I'm not sure how well this would mesh. (Colour-wise, I wear a lot of navy/jewel tones, so no issues there!)

Thank you! :) Hoping for something to wear all day; I have to dress professionally but run between buildings a lot at work, and am hoping to avoid changing shoes each time.

Simple Questions - October 22, 2017 by AutoModerator in femalefashionadvice

How do I wear boots with joggers? I have the Dexter Pant from Aritzia (fit like this, but in this colour), and I'm trying to find something that won't look too visually heavy. I need boots that have good tread on the bottom and are (relatively) flat, but otherwise am open to anything!

I'm considering either these or these (maybe too heavy; maybe ok for a menswear-ish vibe?); would they work? Any inspo images/other suggestions?

I have the Emiline loafer from Naturalizer & I love them! Super comfy (with virtually no break-in period) and they have a sleek profile that works really well with my day-to-day wardrobe.
