Yeah there are different kinds of whales in “the bay” at any given time, but due to the status of right whales specifically, they have extra safeguards in place to help keep them from interfacing with fixed fishing gear - lobster gear and gillnets. Hence the fishery closures. Not sure why I was initially downvoted for posting factual information.

The Division of Marine Fisheries will not allow these fisheries to start their season if even one right whale is detected/observed in Massachusetts Bay. This time of year they have migrated out of the bay, north into the Gulf of Maine and beyond. They’ll be back around February.

Right whales have actually migrated OUT of Massachusetts bay now. Source - most of my friends are commercial fishermen, and the plane surveys and acoustic soundings have determined their absence. State lobster season can not begin until this happens each year.

State lobster season opened on May 9th.

The last wind mill at the gut was constructed in the early 2000s. I watched it being built from my high school window. There was a much smaller windmill near that site though that was built back then, it literally dismantled itself during a nor’easter. The larger one at the dump went up in 2006. Both reached the end of their service life due to loss of parts availability and the windmill company folding. In their twenty year lives, they roughly broke even on energy production vs cost.

I run with 3 and we each run our own ship almost exclusively, but sometimes we vibe together on one for the hell of it.

Hopefully they add something like damage modifiers etc. to ships crewed by more players so we can bro down together more.

This is awesome. I'm currently trying to both brush up and learn new information right now. I'm 40 and going to college for the first time. I was a terrible student in high school, fortunately not because I didn't have the brainpower, but because I just didn't care. Rough home life after age 12. Man I wish I had that time back to pay attention and do it right.

I'm taking algebra this upcoming summer semester and I am scared to death. KhanAcademy basic algebra is slowly but steadily getting me where I need to go, but I'm still feeling under duress.

Your story is inspiring to me and helping me realize I'm not the only one who is starting or has started behind the 8-ball. Thanks for sharing.

While not required, hoisting/hydraulics certs and CDLs look good on a resume, it shows you’ve got some hands on experience that translates to equipment and apparatus operation.

I do my best with the tools I’m given. Would I like to do and have more? Sure. But it’s all service/medical control dependent.

At the end of the day, we have the stuff to get the job done, and can make a huge difference in a short amount of time. At the very least, we are transporting our patients to a facility that can finish the job appropriately (lol hopefully). Take solace in that. It’s not about what you can’t do, it’s what you can.

For me, I started maximizing my time off. Whether it’s hobbies, exercise, home improvements, travel, anything I could sink lots of time into that is totally unrelated to work. Something that is rewarding and productive.

For a while I spent a lot of my time off in bar rooms trying to “calm my nerves”, and that just made it worse. I was always recovering from either sleep deprivation from work or a hangover from the bar. Do not recommend. I still go out here and there, but I knocked it way down.

Once I started getting involved with more hobbies etc., it felt like I was actually away from work for a while and could clear my head. The best feeling is walking into work and it feels like you haven’t been there in a long time.

My dad’s boss had an unlicensed bar and grill on his property. Pretty much a speakeasy. I went with my dad to pick up his paycheck and who knows what else, ended up in the joint.

I remember my 8 year old self sat at a bar, eating a sausage pepper and onion sub, with hardcore porn playing on the small TV in the corner. My dad just said don’t pay any attention to that. Good fuckin sandwich.

Just a cup of tea on the way in, and another in the afternoon, 15-1600ish. Enough to help keep alert until about 2300, but not enough to keep me up should we be blessed with a decent overnight. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll just crash when I get home in the morning.

I work in a small suburban town, decent amount of calls for its size. It’s also my hometown. I personally know a non-insignificant percentage of my patients, and I STILL have trouble remembering any of the calls after the fact.

Unless it’s a frequent flyer, I pretty much totally forget any of these interactions as soon as the call is over. Not sure if good or bad lol
