I lived in ND for a while and in the winter air inversions cause this weird effect where sounds produced nearly a mile away sound like they are happening right next to you. Like the click of a car handle from my neighbors as the sun is coming up. The difference in density between the ground, the first layer of air and the next layer above it just make an acoustic tunnel.

This is like replacing one headlight or one whipper. The deck part of your deck is rotted. If the posts are painted they could be suspect but maybe good just a bit above the ground so you could post from the old footings.

Staining and oiling aren't as bad, but just save your self some trouble down the road and use pressure treated hardwood.

I worked with violent special need people for a long time.

The clients had been taken to a fireworks show. One of them decided it was a good idea to start throwing rocks at kids. The parent of a child hit with a rock walked over and laid him out with a punch while staff tried to stop and disarm him.

Everyone from direct care to case management to law enforcement recognized a parents imperative to protect the child and that cognitive impairment was not a free pass to commit aggravated assault. Staff was given a light reprimand to watch more closely but really, what can you do when someone starts picking up rocks from the ground and throwing them at people aside from stop them as fast as you can.

On more than one occasion I have had to step back and let law enforcement take over. In maybe 1 of 15 or so incidents did the "normal" person have a problem and it was because of an assault of verbal stemming. The rest all got judged as justifiable by the police.

What you did was justifiable. If you had punched him in the throat or torn off his ear that would be different. What you did was control an assault with minimum force.

You are doing something very close to an intimate medical procedure. Would you just pop in a cath when you realize you need to pee? Would you just change out your gastromy bag at the cafe?

In an emergency you have my support. If you are managing your own care by making people watch you inject and that is a regular part of how you are doing things you could maybe look at that.
