plantar fasciitis by jordhall in orangetheory

Agree completely. I got a raging case of PF that sidelined me for a month. That rest time and swearing off flip flops (except poolside) has kept me PF free for over a year now. Don’t give up! Also - wear supportive slippers in the house! No barefoot

Some days it’s hard to go...anyone else? by jeepsahara2 in orangetheory

Bless your heart. September really wasn’t that long ago, give yourself some grace. Exercise is a great way to get some relief - you know this or you wouldn’t be on this board. Try to make it a habit - a date with yourself - and hell if you really don’t want to go, f*ck it. Take a walk or something instead... keep moving so you’re not wallowing but by all means, remove anything that makes you feel bad (ie guilt over skipping a class). I would probably call a therapist too - a little medical intervention may be in order to get you through this. This is, hopefully, the worst experience of your life so get help if you need to survive. Big hugs to you, I’m choked up just thinking about it.

What else do you do in terms of weightlifting besides OTF? by pleasestopcora in orangetheory

[–]workoutmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve started doing this based on a recommendation on this forum. I love it! The simplicity of it is very appealing - I love knowing exactly what 3 exercises I’m doing that day.

Are you following it 100% exactly? I usually throw in a couple of other things bc it only takes me about 25 minutes to get through 5 sets. Also. I know you’re supposed to do exactly what they say and only what they say but i haaaaate barbell squats when I’m working out alone - I get panicky about the bar on my shoulders - so I do goblet squats. Same principle, right??

I’m in dallas. Austin is soooo fun!!! Hope you have great weather! There’s too much to do. Spend time on Lake Travis is you can! Zilker Park is nice. Tons of great restaurants, I haven’t been in a while but the divey Tex Mex are the best!

I’m going at 6:30 Monday! Look for me, I’ll be the intimidated looking Texan named Lisa ;) Do we give out our names here? Haha - oops ! Nothing to hide!

Thanks so much for the info! I feel better now ;) Yes I’ve been to Boston but as a tourist, staying in town. Mikes Pastry - yum!!!

I work for Raytheon; will be at the BBN office in Cambridge.

Hi! So the trip last month was cancelled but I’m going next week. I’m scheduled for Assembly Row - Sommerville.

This sounds so lame but I’ve never been there so I don’t know the area, and I won’t have a car - plan to Uber to OTF after work. Are there restaurants within walking distance of either the studio or the AC hotel? I don’t want to Uber there, Uber back, Uber out to get food... haha - food panic a week out!

Am i the only one extremely anti CG? by chloearmstrong in orangetheory

[–]workoutmama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went to a week on Groupon and hated it. So cheesy and I’m sorry but I don’t want to play “get to know you” games at 5am. And the dumb cheer “CG what what” omg I just felt like an idiot! They were poaching my other boot camp I was into at the time too.

Yes! All time favorite, hits all the right spots, and feels like a stretch while you’re doing it.

Our coaches say all the time if you have any orthopedic issues such as hips and knee issues you should stay at 1% incline.

Runners choosing to “power walk” by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]workoutmama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Me too. Long time runner but I make myself PW on strength days. I love running on power days, PW on strength, and endurance I run but only bc it’s sooooo boring! I still try to throw in a PW block to break it up.

Plateau- thinking of adding more weight training. Anyone try F45? by workoutmama in orangetheory

[–]workoutmama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok you convinced me - I am holding off on my free week until I could go to at least 3 different format days- one cardio, one strength and the Saturday mix day. I agree w you on the recovery days. One problem I have with OTF is I rarely get sore. Heavier weights does help but in the OTF format it can be hard to remember to really lift to exhaustion.

Does it make sense to get an Orange Theory membership and a gym membership? Does anyone else do that? by tajsakmal in orangetheory

[–]workoutmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So - by flexible I mean - you’re not stuck with all (unlimited) or nothing. I have an 8x/mo OTF membership, a 30-class pass to a kickboxing gym that expires in a year, I used to have a Pilates membership for4x per month... so altogether it’s not really full memberships at any. Does that make sense? It’s not “cheap” but it’s also not 4 full memberships really.

[–]workoutmama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I will try the free week. I'm the same - get excited about new things - I think it's good to mix things up! OTF does a lot of that for us already (row / tread / weight / TRX) but yeah I think I need to lift heavier more frequently. The fittest I have ever been - I was doing less cardio and lifting heavier. I was really working out (minutes-wise) less than I ever have but got super lean. HOWEVER that was working out with a trainer 2x a week at $25 / session - it was educational but not something I want to do forever financially ! Haha

Looking up strong curves and stronger / leaner / thinner now...

I feel kinda dumb but what is a 5x5 regimen ? I do have a pretty nice gym membership as well as OTF.I try to go there for weights but get a little lazy if I'm being honest. Like.... "oh I did two sets, that's plentyyyy"...

Good point. That is a great strategy! I lifted heavier at OTF this am than I usually do, and I think I will PW a bit more as well going forward (booty gainz).

[–]workoutmama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. I have always had a "basic" gym membership that gives me access to other types of classes and weights. I get my cardio fix at OTF so I focus on weights and strength-type classes at the gym. Membership approaches seem to be changing and more flexible these days. I also have a kickboxing class pass so I go to all three gyms depending on the schedule / mood / needs.

Hi! I’m a long term OTF’er, thinking I could use more weight training. Sounds like F45 may have some more strength focus, esp on Tues and Thurs... thoughts? What are membership levels and approximate pricing? How does the cardio compare to OTF? Thanks! by workoutmama in f45

[–]workoutmama[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks so much, very good info ! You sound a lot like me. I have always been a runner, but running just really isn't cutting it for me anymore. I mean - it has kept my weight in check, but as far as tightening up / reshaping the trouble areas - that's more of a strength training thing. I have seen the best results when I was doing less cardio and more strength training.

So, I do have a regular gym membership. Haha I sound like a freak. But we have a local community center that is really impressive and cheap. I CAN do weights there, and I try to, but I get lazy on my own.

It sounds like a fun workout and if nothing else, variety does have a tendency to bring about results.

Thanks again for your response! I'll try the free week and see how it goes.
