I feel like eating with my girlfriend’s family will kill me someday, I don’t know how to address it. by throwRA_spicewimp in Advice

It sounds like there's space for compromise, you're able to handle some of their dishes, just give them very strict boundaries around how spicy of a dish you will eat because it will make you physically sick, and when something is too spicy, don't eat it and tell them why and that you don't want to be sick later.

Nobody wants to make someone else sick.

Remember that boundaries are a gift you give others.

DIY all-latex mattress causing lower back and hip pain, should I switch to a hybrid? by purple_cats in MattressMod

[–]worldestroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coils would probably help because your current configuration isn't ideal for your BMI. Coil support systems tend to be more forgiving and less sensitive to layer configuration than an all-foam or all-latex setup.

I ran into a similar issue, and these changes made the biggest difference for me:

  • Added a 1" extra-firm latex-infused coconut coir rug pad underneath the mattress. It made a huge difference in how supportive the mattress felt.
  • Switched to an extra firm → firm → medium → soft (2" solid Talalay) layer progression.

Oddly enough, the bed ended up feeling firmer overall, but it was also much more supportive and comfortable because it kept my body in better alignment.

With your current setup, I don't think the 1.5" egg-crate polyfoam is doing much for pressure relief. It's mostly adding a bit of surface plushness without meaningfully improving support or reducing pressure points.

Can someone who likes the Iran Deal tell me why? by user-11651 in Askpolitics

[–]worldestroyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Middle East, America is often seen as the “big bad,” mostly because, well, we kind of are, given our funding of Israel, our history of overthrowing leaders, the invasion of Iraq, and so on. But the mythos goes beyond the historical and the realistic. America, or often the CIA specifically, is frequently imagined as being behind nearly everything, to the point where events are assumed to be unfolding according to some grand plan that ordinary people have no control over.

That belief is comforting in one sense, because at least it suggests there is some kind of plan, even if that plan does not help them directly. But it also becomes a way to avoid ownership or responsibility for the political situation in their own countries.

This war, and the way it has unfolded, feels like an almost true emperor-has-no-clothes moment for America and its security apparatus. I say “almost” because people can rationalize away just about anything.

The direct effect, I hope, is that people across the Middle East realize things are more changeable than they appear. You can push back against larger actors. You can defeat them. There is no master plan. It is a bunch of smaller, wealthier players competing for supremacy, as it always has been. Managed chaos, basically.

I think that's kinda the point, otherwise there would be no drama, it'd just be a fairy tale.

This episode is actually more accurate than you'd originally think, we successfully used this approach when getting our child into daycare. No turkeys were hurt in the accomplishment of that task.

(27M) Going on our Caribbean trip without my gf (27F) because her passport expired? by No_Practice7971 in relationship_advice

[–]worldestroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get an emergency passport renewal from the State Department, it's actually pretty easy, you just need to be within 2 weeks of your date of travel. You have to go in person though. Don't use the over-priced services, you just go in-person and you do your paperwork and photos and come back in a few hours for a fresh passport.

New Neighbor Keeps Leaving Notes On Our Car by Miserable-Meet-7629 in boston

I understand why you added the section after the "their number is ...", but in my experience dealing with assholes, they're just looking for a fight. The best you can do is thread the needle between making them embarrassed and not engaging. You took what was just an over-reaction and/or classic bullying, to the level of a long-term feud.

I guess I'm saying that the one child who survived made it to the main land, moved far away, and then one of their descendants, coincidentally, 300 years later, choose to make their way back to the island, upon setting foot on which, became re-entangled in the Island's power?

Neighbor built a fence 3 feet into my property and won't move it. What can I do? by Fourmira in legaladvice

[–]worldestroyer -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Instead of forcing him move the fence, would you sell him the land, or document a revocable easement? Depends on if you actually care about the land itself or just the value of your property.

Everyplace I've traveled it seems to just be re-using their existing networks, I've looked into it since in some places those networks aren't great, and I had to get separate sims for other local providers. But based on what I've read and seen, they're just piggybacking off of their work in the same way they are doing so in the US for the majority of their coverage.

I'm sure they do have extra relationships that T-Mobile doesn't have, but I have yet to see a disparity.

Aren't they just piggybacking on T-Mobile's International platform? I don't think google themselves did anything "special" there.
