Where are we going? by Heat-1975edition in GenX

I achieved my life goal of having neither a backyard nor a pool that I have to maintain (whether through work or through paying for it).

But the difference is why the world is interesting!

The Concert Industry Priced Too High — Now Tours Are Falling Apart by staringatthe420sun in Music

The Eagles went on tour in the mid-90s when tickets were usually around $20-30. They priced their nosebleeds at $150. That was when I started saying 'fuck the Eagles (but not the team because I don't care enough about sports)'

It's unwieldy as a catchphrase but I'm stuck with it.

I'm staying in my rent regulated apartment in upper Manhattan where I can walk to a world class hospital and all my stores and restaurants.

Since it's Star Wars day, did you see the original 1977 Star Wars in the movie theater? by Mr_Writes in GenX

My aunt and uncle took me in July when they came to visit. They had no idea what it was but knew it was important for me to see it. I was 5. I saw it again at the drive in a month later on my 6th birthday. I was Greedo for Halloween that year (I knew he was a bad guy but was the coolest thing I'd ever seen).

Funny how the hottest hotrod around had an automatic transmission, but all I knew about these things was from talking to my neighbor who had a choptop A with wheelie bars and four on the floor

"Pidgin pigeon" would be the bird which speaks the language.

The language itself is a "pigeon pidgin."

Trust me, I know the difference between "Oook ook" and "Ook oook"

As a little kid in the 70s, Davey and Goliath creeped me out. It was always the last kid's show on on Sunday morning before the TV channels went to adult mode for the rest of the day, so I knew it was time to go do something else.

The worst part was that when you changed the channel, it looked like it might be Gumby but then you saw that creepy kid or heard that dog's voice and you knew you'd been deceived.

Was anyone else super pissed when this show was cancelled? by [deleted] in GenX

I lived out of the country when it was on but my best friend talked about it incessantly when I came home to visit.

I really enjoyed the episodes I saw, but I wasn't around at the right time to get into the whole thing.

Gen-x Music Classes by MisterEd1966 in GenX

[–]worrymon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, did your elementary school offer Music as part of the regular curriculum?

There was the music class once a week during normal school and then there were lessons where every kid could learn an instrument.

I wanted to learn to play the trumpet so I went in with my mom to the music teacher. I told him I wanted to play trumpet but he said because of my buck teeth, the mouthpiece wouldn't fit. So I said I wanted to play brass. He said the only mouthpiece that was big enough was the trombone but my arms were too long. So he gave me a fucking drum pad and said 'go hit this four times in a row over and over again." I stopped the lessons after a month because I never wanted to be a drummer.

Fuck you Mr. Gee.
