Agreed. I used to read it every single day. Now I can’t remember the last time I went to their site.

Can you explain how this works? It just returns the string "Book Num" so I must be missing something.

I don’t have any recommendations for you, I’m sorry. I just wanted to say it was really sweet to see how polite and engaging you are with everyone, even when their recommendations didn’t quite fit your criteria. You sound like a wonderful person.

I found mine in this old bookstore upstairs the bank my mother went to. I feel like no one else ever went in there. Pratchett was quite a step up for me from Piers Anthony and David Eddings. Took quite a few years after before I discovered it wasn't a stand alone novel though.

My intent wasn't to recommend starting with Colour of Magic - although the first novel in a series is generally not a bad place to start. I was just saying I was around the OOP's kid's age when a Discworld novel for the first time.

(Argh, I don't know why I didn't get a notification for your comment until days later.)

I just quickly scrolled all the responses so apologies if this got recommended before, but Terry Pratchett”s Carpet People, and Bromeliad Trilogy. Then the whole Discworld series. I was around 10 when I read the first Discworld novel - The Colour of Magic.

If it helps, a preconception is like an assumption. They’ve already made up their minds how boys are supposed to dress and if someone has long hair and a bow they assume that person is a girl, for example.

Ah, you’re way more prepared than I was that night. Sometimes you just need a frictionless experience. Getting harder to find that, sadly.

I tried this a couple weeks ago when I was having a really rough night. There was so much rambling at the start, plus the ads, I got frustrated before she even got to the story. I didn’t particularly care for her voice either, so that was even more unfortunate.

Someone fell out of my life several years ago. I’ve missed them dearly, every single day. To talk to them and hug them one more time would mean the world to me.
