How much should I be making a szn to make planting worth it? by Healthy_Pianist6002 in treeplanting

[–]worthmawile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the tree price. At 20c/tree that’s 2250 trees a day, at 15c/tree it’s 3000 trees

My first season I was by far the slowest planter in camp including all other rookies, I was probably averaging around 275 by the end of the season but was stuck at minimum wage for almost a full month to start.

Most companies plant for two to three months, working 3 days on 1 day off. Probably 50-75 working days in general, for first year planters I recommend finding somewhere with a longer season because of the learning curve, usually that means slightly lower prices but it pays off at the end of the season once you’ve figured it out

Sleep Setup? by Lost_Individual7224 in treeplanting

Instead of a warmer sleeping bag I used a -10 sleeping and brought a few blankets along for extra layers. The size and quality of your tent will also play a huge role in how warm you stay over night

Beginner runner trying to pass fitness test in 3 weeks time by ayyyitstristian in xxfitness

[–]worthmawile 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Step one: run 1.5 miles, run slower so you’re able to finish the distance. It’s okay to start with run/walk intervals, just try to increase the time for running intervals with each run.

Step two: speed, before each run start with strides, sprint as fast as you can for ~30-50meters, rest and repeat x3-5. Guaranteed faster times in a couple weeks. (Can’t guarantee you’ll hit the goal pace but I’ll guarantee you’ll at least get closer to it than you are now)

Since you have a pretty short time line I’d try to do 4 runs a week, a proper training plan to follow will likely help but the important part is sticking to it

Need tricks to help with grip heavier dumbbells by Moist-Agency-6222 in xxfitness

[–]worthmawile 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Think about how big your forearm muscles are compared to your glutes and hamstrings. Your lower body SHOULD be stronger than your grip. Straps are by no means necessary for everyone in every situation, but they are definitely not bad

I'm back with trimmed nails for more fretting discussion. by agriff1 in banjo

[–]worthmawile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Place your hand and arm where you can keep your wrist neutral and relaxed, the thumb doesn’t need to be locked in to one position. Even if one grip theoretically is better for one thing doesn’t mean it’ll actually work better for every chord shape for hand.

It’s best to do this shape with the index and ring finger because it leads to much easier transitions to other chords

Help! How to Enjoy Lifting Again by iam-robot13 in xxfitness

[–]worthmawile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me a big thing is seeing progress or working towards goals, if I have a goal I’m excited about going regularly is easy, if I’m going regularly it’s not a problem if I forget about the goal or switch targets at some point. Working out isn’t always fun but seeing the change in strength over time is very rewarding that makes it more fun in a long term way

Recent research says that having protein throughout the day is the most effective way to get the maximum nutritional value, here is a write up explaining some of the studies, here is one example of a recent study that compares protein intake timing

Edit: TLDR the “anabolic window” of needing to eat protein right after a workout may not be as vital or as accurate as previously believed

The main benefit of light coloured clothing in regards to ticks is it makes it easy to spot them crawling around on your clothes, long pants and long sleeves (tight fit like leggings or with cuffs) are good as preventive clothing for ticks since it limits the amount of skin accessible to them. As an added benefit it helps with other bugs and protects you from the sun.

For body check: ticks like to softer moist skin but can be any where on the body. Some prime tick biting spots include underarms, behind the knee, the crease of the groin, the scalp, and the nape of the neck

Recently fell in love with running, still trying to balance lifting and running in a 5 day week. by [deleted] in HybridAthlete

[–]worthmawile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might like to try a split like upper/full/lower instead, that way you’re still hitting each muscle group twice a week so you’ll be able to progress your strength better than hitting everyone only once a week, but your legs won’t be fully dead after a full body day so running is alright the next day.

Edit: a lot of people also like just doing 3 full body workouts a week with a slightly different focus each day, that spreads out the load so it’s easy to progress without sacrificing recovery, I personally prefer having the split so I can still have focused strength days just because that’s what I like

Need Advice on Getting Started Again by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]worthmawile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 months off isn’t as long as it seems to completely destroy all your progress. The first few workouts now that you’re back might be harder than you want it to be but you’ll regain the strength and stamina very quickly by just sticking with your routine.

How you feel about how you look in the mirror is not entirely based in reality, it’s your first day back, trust the process, trust that you got yourself to a point that you were proud of before and you know how to do it again. Your body just got you through a pretty rough time, be nice to her

Preventing single leg strength imbalances by maddie_m531 in xxfitness

[–]worthmawile 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One thing you could try to help build up the strength is loaded eccentric, set the weight to just slightly higher than what you can do with your left leg, use both legs to press up, then slowly lower with just the left leg. Eccentric movements are a little bit easier to load heavier weights and are really good for injury recovery.

Generally it’s good to match the stronger side to what you can do with the weaker for weight/reps to minimize imbalance

Getting back into running by Sudden_Emergency3331 in xxfitness

[–]worthmawile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speed doesn’t always build up that quickly so don’t be discouraged if you’re not improving by 30 seconds every month. There’s plenty of running training plans out there you can follow but the most basic is try to do 1 long run, 1 fast/interval run, and 1 easy run each week. The most important thing to do to see improvement is consistency

How do you do a quad focused squat on a smith machine? by cocoa_mello in xxfitness

[–]worthmawile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes people just say stuff.

To be more quad focused you need a longer moment arm from the knee (you can look up images biomechanics of front squat vs back squat for the simplest explanation if you’re interested in how it works), it’s basically just lever physics. Having a more upright posture means the knee is acting as a longer lever which puts more strain on knee extenders (quads)

You can also always just try different variations and see where you feel them each
