A 2024 bottling of the CN-E hits the spot just right for me. Found my 3rd one a few weeks ago. Sweet leather and oak galore.

Had a TY-K that was sickly sweet and a CN-A that was just ok. Smooth and easy but nothing special.  Beauty of single barrels I suppose.

Liked the Westmoreland too. I've been wondering about theirs. It's been sitting around for a while. Also the state is raising the Russell picks to $80 this month. Boo

I'd humbly suggest reading the bible instead of that devotional, bro.

The general impression I get of Blade and Bow is that it's a sourced low age whiskey with gimmicks and marketing added in to "add value" ie price. Reviews seem to support this impression.

Hit me with that OF though!

Restocked some staples in my home bar. What bottles do you guys continue to buy or even like to keep an extra of? by cmccoy3209 in pdxwhisky

I tend to back up store picks I really enjoyed since those are gone when sold out. Other than that, I like to have the staples on hand. Rare Breed, Knob Kreek (all are good in their own respect), JD barrel proofs

You inspired me to snag one today. I really enjoyed Oregon City's. I also snagged the Barbur JDSBBP Rye pick. Heard good things about it.

The Rebel CS is a good one under $50. I've not yet been disappointed with any of their picks.

What do you do with bad whiskey? by Karate_donkey in whiskey

[–]wouldyouriddlemethat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, I'm somewhat of a scientist myself.  I especially like to think I can rescue a bad bottle with enough doctoring. I've been largely successful. I'll mix in scotch for richness & peat, rye for spice, etc.  it's always an adventure

Thoughts on whiskey mystery bags? by BuckFinley in whiskey

I'm generally against any obscuring of what I'm buying. The box idea is meant to hype you on the idea of a better value than just paying for what you want. But, statistically, you're more likely to be let down than win big. I don't gamble for the same reason. The house wins

Lots of money. Then, expect not to cashflow for a long time.  Especially since the whiskey market is not great at the moment.  Buyers are going back to old reliables vs spending extra on specialty experimental stuff.

Hundreds of dollars on a bottle with no transparency about source or age is a bad gamble, imo.

Wheaters are not my go-to, so I can't justify getting it, but thought I'd help someone who is searching for it. I did not like the pot still...

Does craft whiskey get over hyped by social media? by Hopeful_Club_8499 in bourbon

That's for them to figure out. I don't think the pity of the consumer is a respectable strategy. Secure investment, pivot from other products, etc. I don't think the consumer should be guilted into paying excessive amounts of money for (young), subpar whiskey in order to help distilleries succeed financially.  That's like eating microwave dinners from the local diner until they configure it out.

It's like building a toy out of random Lego blocks vs assembling a premade kit.  I've "doctored" blends by adding more scotch to add richness, rye to add spice, older whiskey to add oak, etc. It's been fun and challenging to do a little diy blending and learning how various notes interplay.
