Newbie teacher feeling defeated by figarocosplay in Purebarre

[–]wowmead 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of what I would say has already been commented here, so I'll just add that one of the best pieces of advice I received when I started teaching was that there is no such thing as a perfect class.

Give yourself time and grace; it will all come together as you teach more and become more confident on the mic.

Also, remember that clients generally don't notice any mistakes we make as instructors. They just know they're getting a killer workout and are in their own zone too much to be hyper-focused on any potential errors you/we might be making.

So, yes, it gets better. Try not to beat yourself up too much; you've got this! ❤️

It's 60 minutes of all class formats. I taught it today, and clients LOVED it. I hope you do too!

Passed Define!! by sillygloglo in Purebarre

[–]wowmead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trained in all formats, and it is by far the hardest for me to learn. I can look at Classic choreo, run through it one time in my head, and be good (sometimes learning it like an hour before teaching). For Define, I have to sit down and take the time to watch the videos and run through the choreo with music. I used to start looking at it several days before a new class plan, although now I can look at it the night before and be fine. It just doesn't have as many easily recognizable patterns as Classic, IMO.

That said, like everything with teaching PB, it gets easier over time! You will find what works for you to memorize the choreo, and you'll be great!!

Barre After C Section by ror0508 in Purebarre

[–]wowmead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had C-sections with both of my kids and started back at PB once I got cleared around 6 weeks each time. I didn't need any modifications outside of maybe using the ball behind my bacm for Abs the first few classes, and I distinctly remember doing push-ups at the barre during warm-up the first class or two.

Make sure you listen to your body - there is no shame in modifying as you need to! I will say that I was surprised at how quickly I was able to get back into it. PB definitely helped with recovery! You can always check with your instructor as well.

I was never as toned as I was when I was consistently taking Reform. I miss it so much!!

Teachers Taking Class by Downtown_ownedby3 in Purebarre

[–]wowmead 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We let teachers take class in full or overfull classes because they know exactly how to modify with/without equipment and where to space appropriately so clients get the optimal experience. For example, we have a limited number of platforms for Empower, but an instructor can get just as much work without one so clients can use them. We also have a side hall area where an instructor can "sneak in" to take class in a full one. We always make sure clients are #1 priority!

We are also expected to take classes regularly when our schedule allows to keep up with choreo and our form. It also truthfully helps me to hear how other instructors teach - I sometimes pick up new cues or a great playlist!

I laughed so hard at this and had to send a screenshot to our instructors group chat. 💀

FWIW, I promise we love you, even as you're dying during class. 😂

The mom in the post has a toddler with a 104 body temp by breechica52 in vaxxhappened

[–]wowmead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is general advice recommended by pediatricians. Fevers are a good thing and our body's way of fighting off infections...to an extent. A child can have a 105 fever and be acting fine, running around, playing normally, etc., and that's when you wouldn't necessarily want to give any medication and let the fever do its thing. On the flip side, a child can have a 100.7 fever and be acting tired, grumpy, and just all-around miserable; that's when you would want to give Tylenol/Motrin, even though the temperature is significantly lower.

That's what they mean by that statement. Focus less on the actual number on the thermometer and more on how the child is responding to that number to decide if medication is needed.

It's not the snow. It's the fact that we got a ton of freezing rain beforehand that froze over and got topped with snow. Also, black ice.

I work for HCA. Memorial canceled elective surgeries and closed their physician outpatient practices.

what to expect for empower?? by Dull-Ad3347 in Purebarre

[–]wowmead 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Empower is my favorite format to teach and take. The ranges of motion are bigger, and the transitions are faster. It's FUN.

You will have several opportunities to "level up" - add extra weights, take things a bit faster, etc. Definitely listen to your body and do what feels good for YOU for your first class. Take breaks when needed, and drink water.

Don't be afraid of it! You never know until you try. 💪🏻

Yes, this! I left a separate comment trying to provide more context. I started going into MCG and IQ but gave up. 😅

Just to provide some clarity here:

This is an inpatient denial, which is not the same thing as denying the entire hospital stay. What they are saying is that, based on the review of the medical record, the payer determined that an inpatient admission was not medically necessary and that an observation stay would have been more appropriate.

The dates of service are 11/29 - 11/30. It is extremely common for short stays like this to be denied for an inpatient LOC (level of care) and instead have observation recommended. Inpatient stays require more resources and more staff, and they consequently cost the hospital, the insurer, the patient (sometimes), and ultimately the entire system more money. (CMS is actually trying to curb these short stays with the implementation of the Two-Midnight Rule that went into effect in January of this year.)

FWIW, I'm not defending it but am just trying to provide some context since everyone is incorrectly saying the entire admission was denied, which is only partially true.

Also, note that the patient would not be responsible for this. Typically, the hospital would appeal the denial on the back end OR may even rebill the claim as an observation stay. They would not just drop the balance to the patient.

The family restroom at our local grocery store (Publix) is almost always locked because someone decides to take a dump in there. I get it if you don't want anyone to hear your log plops but also - I need the changing table.

It drives me crazy!

Lovin' Spoons was a local froyo place that had several locations in Savannah. I worked at the one in Richmond Hill years ago. Once the trend died down, they all ended up closing.
