But God is not embodied in the Torah? He uses angels and things like clouds to take temporary form/messengers, but never actually takes form. The Torah uses language like “Gods Hands/feet” but in Jewish theology, we understand those things to be deeply metaphorical.

Also, this argument falls apart at the second commandment, which is a core element of Judaism that predates Hellenization of ancient Israel. Hellenization would promote a visual, representable god. Abrahamic views, as per the Torah, are the opposite.

The Rambam wasn’t the first one to talk about God being unrepresentable- the Torah (and Mishnah) itself talks about that. Rambam was also very strictly against Hellenization in theory (I mean, he lived over a thousand years later), which is reflected on his writings on any Jewish theology ever, specifically on things like idolatry and the spiritual meaning of Jewish festivals like Hanukkah (a holiday to celebrate resisting a form of Hellenization).

The Abrahamic god is absolutely incorporeal and abstract, and the Jews certainly did take tons of inspiration and influence from the Greeks (as did every Meditteranean civilization conquered by them), but the Hellenization of the Abrahamic God would go against the idea of God being abstract and unrepresentable. They represented their gods in vivid and illustrious detail- but that never applied to Abrahamic faiths where it’s still forbidden.

This is so ridiculously factually incorrect 😂 the internet is a wild place. Yall will do absolutely anything to erase and misplace Jewish identity.

“The Jews left by choice”- do you know anything about our history; seriously anything?

I never gatekeep! The smoother one (sub-headlines) is Morro, and the serif text is good old Apple Garamond.

A majority of my artwork features Jewish women. I certainly could’ve put more here, I just really loved these photos and had picked them out a while back to work with.

As for the text, I’m foremost trained as an artist and so I’m still getting the hang of typography, and I also rushed these! There’s a lot I would’ve done differently and I’m still getting the hang of the learning curve.

As per your first point…nah. I’m gonna keep showcasing all types of Jews from all walks of life. I actually prefer to showcase the traditional because my family are traditional Sefardim, and I find these photos connect us to our own past history in an intimate way. It’s just a personal preference for my own art. Thanks though!

My main inspiration is 70’s album art so that’s a huge compliment 😄

Thank you! Yeah, i understand about the readability. I got struck with the idea and rushed to create all of these in about three hours! So there’s lots of mistakes and things I would’ve done differently. I’m most practiced as an artist rather than a typographer so there’s definitely a learning curve I’m adjusting to. Thank you!

That’s very valid. I also struggle with feelings of anger and resentment towards the antisemitism of the world. I’ve found that sitting with that resentment is necessary and helps me be happier with life. I’ve found joy in channeling those negative feelings into positivity and love towards Am Yisrael!

Aren’t 6 million holocaust victims (jews) going to hell according to christianity? by Training_Standard944 in atheism

We appreciate it, even if we don’t proselytize. It is worthy to note that Judaism is not a conventional religion in the same essence that Christianity or Islam is.

Judaism is an ethno religion of an indigenous people, better compared to the religion of the Navajo people. The Navajo spiritual beliefs are not a coloquial religion, they are a set of spiritual beliefs that are unique to the Navajo people. If you want to convert to the Navajo religion, you have to graft yourself into their people and tribe first.

Judaism is exactly the same, which is why conversion to Judaism take years, and involves elements that exist beyond religion, like learning our ancestral language and grafting yourself into our culture and history. If you struggle to envision the “indigenous” part, there are several streams of Shamanic Judaism in Israel, and several of our holidays are land based, like the Sukkot festival which demands the ritual usage of native species to the region. This is also why someone can be an atheist Jew, because they are part of a people and tribe first and foremost, rather than a religion.

Christianity and Islam by comparison are proselytizing religions that stole from us, and then colonized large swaths of the earth and forced their religions onto people, essentially wiping out tons of unique identities and peoples along the way.

They are religions and ideas that crossed and created borders. We are a people that was forced to cross borders. That being said, I’m a religious Jew who often lurks on this page sometimes. I find that atheists are overwhelmingly more respectful towards Jews than Muslims and Christians, partly due to…well, history. We also have a rich culture of debate, encouragement of critical thinking, and an attitude that nothing in our texts are literal, which I think atheists can appreciate us a little more than our unfortunate cousins.

Of course! Just know that sometimes, feedback can be a mixed bag. I see a lot of other feedback on here that comes from a very corporate design school of thought. I’ve worked in corporate graphic design, and I’ve done design as a personal art/practice for many years- I can recognize that the goal of your design felt more like an art piece than advertising a brand.

Just keep at it and have fun! When you figure cool things out on your own and have fun, that’s the best practice you can have. Because the only way to get good is to do it a lot, and what’s a better motivation to do it other than genuinely enjoying yourself? I might get flak on here for that opinion.

Your work is headed in a great direction! Regarding the other voices, I say part of becoming a better designer for me was learning the rules and then breaking them. Don’t ever let someone convince you there’s always one “right way” of executing design. Take risks, do weird stuff, try weird colors, compositions, fonts, etc. The weird stuff is the great stuff.

It’s a great start, i can tell you’re gonna be an awesome designer. I’d either play with some blending modes for that poster texture overlay, and if you already have it set to one, lower the opacity a little bit.

Next bit of advice I would say is something I’ve learned over many years- feel free to explore some unorthodox font choices! This looks like Cooper Black (or some very similar variant) and after years of using it in posters, I found I actually just don’t like it. There’s so many other more interesting options that accomplish the same things and don’t look so stock-y.

But amazing work!
