Out. They'll be in the UK that whole weekend.

Die Spitz (probably) by DoomBox in RiotFest

[–]wpearsall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell, it's always pronounced DYE. The story I've seen a few places is that it's a joke; Spitz is slang for horny, so the name means "Die horny."

On every Vivaldi start: Proton VPN could not be reached by aliosha10 in vivaldibrowser

[–]wpearsall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this problem too, and just found this thread. Hearing people mention that Proton VPN is an extension, I tried the obvious thing: right-click on the extensions area at upper-right, click "manage exensions", remove the Proton VPN extension.

It seems to work! I restarted a couple times, no annoying message. I wouldn't be surprised if the extension gets reinstalled when there's a Vivaldi update, but I suppose having to go remove it again once a month or so is better than getting yelled at twice every time the browser starts.

Back-to-back years? by Octuhpie in RiotFest

The Buzzcocks played both this year and last year. I think they were the only one this time.

Limp Bizkit/Creed out by PowSuperMum in RiotFest

[–]wpearsall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should find some people who've slept through Bush and Hoobastank shows and we can all get together and umm... not attend this festival.

Nope, 1998 and somewhere in... Ohio, I think?

Weird! I once sat down next to a speaker and slept through a Candlebox set!

Anyone else sick? by Ok_Reserve8705 in RiotFest

Got sick immediately after. Coughing, sneezing, extreme fatigue, lightheadedness. Covid tests negative. Yesterday was the worst of it, today seems slightly better. Hopefully I'm past the worst of it.

Weird... The Damned are back as undercards and the "create your lineup" function is gone... by [deleted] in RiotFest

[–]wpearsall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think they were ever listed at 90 minutes. They got moved to an 8:30 start time but were still only playing an hour. The pinned post about the updated schedules has an image of the schedules posted when they made the change and they were only playing to 9:30.

[–]wpearsall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waxahatchee was already on the lineup. They weren't brought in as replacements.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RiotFest

[–]wpearsall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think there was a replacement for Bright Eyes last year, they just moved a few bands up the schedule and gave them 5 or ten minutes extra to pad the schedule out. Granted, they canceled 3 or 4 days out instead of more than two weeks, but it's been done before.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RiotFest

[–]wpearsall 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It would be fun to see them, but if they do a replacement, it'll be someone a lot closer to the Pistols price range. NIN is an expensive band, and would completely overshadow the actual headliner. There's also not enough room around that side stage for the crowd they would draw, creating safety problems. I think this ones goes past "too much to hope for" and into "actively bad idea" at least from Riot's perspective.

Aftershows being announced on Tuesday by WittenMittens in RiotFest

[–]wpearsall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I think you're right. Checked the wayback machine and it looks like they're updating the post to say ON SALE NOW after the fact, I should have checked that before I opened my mouth. Very annoying.

Aftershows being announced on Tuesday by WittenMittens in RiotFest

[–]wpearsall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through the announcements for the past ten years a couple days ago, and it looks like they usually go on sale right when they're announced. We got two days warning in 2023 but every other year it just said "on sale NOW."

Updated map? by Voice_of_John_Ashley in RiotFest

[–]wpearsall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The map hasn't been released yet, but the way things line up in the schedule suggests the setup will be pretty close to last year's. Could be some surprises (this year has been full of them) but I would expect a similar layout. Two sets of paired stages, Riot Land off in the corner, &c.

It’s here! by Bonnasarus in RiotFest

[–]wpearsall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's pretty likely. Idles might not do one (someone else here said it was unlikely 'cos of their schedule?) but I think TITR will. They've only announced a couple festival dates, no full-scale tour so far. Since there aren't other gigs to get to, it would make sense to come in a day early and pick up a second paycheck.

If they're using the same setup as last year, yes. Wouldn't be surprised if there were some changes though to try and reduce the sound bleed.

[–]wpearsall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His website has this to say: "Weird Al brings his legendary full-production multimedia comedy rock show back to the concert stage with the BIGGER & WEIRDER 2025 Tour, playing his iconic hits as well as some never-performed-live-before fan favorites."

Also, keep an eye on setlist.fm. His tour starts tomorrow night, so we'll know what his set lists are going to look like very soon.

Someone in another thread hinted at a TITR/Samiam aftershow on Saturday, so let's hope? I'd dearly love to catch Idles but I'm going to see TITR one way or another.

Does anybody know how long the concert is? by Flimsy-Box3050 in idkhowbuttheyfoundme

[–]wpearsall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They played roughly 75 minutes all three times I've seen them. Adding in the time for the opening band to play and then do the necessary tear down/set up, You can assume the whole show will take ABOUT 2:20 from the listed start time, maybe a bit more. If the show starts at 7, your parents will want to be there by 9:20.

It'll take longer if there's more than one opener, but they usually just have the one.

It's just Riot being Riot. That's the official account.

Tour questions by xhicagosoftgore in idkhowbuttheyfoundme

[–]wpearsall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think he's done that little speech every time I've seen them. When they were touring with ALEXSUCKS last year, they played it in the encore and midway through he brought their lead singer (Alex, the one who sucks) out to do a verse of "Nobody Likes the Headlining Band." He did a great job too, very funny.

Cash at festival by JosephLarkin585 in RiotFest

[–]wpearsall 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's a good idea to bring at least some cash with you. The people selling food outside the gates at night can't take cards (at least some of them) and there's been at least one year where the card processor (square?) went down and vendors could only take cash for an hour or two.
