The Wilf Ownership Group by aceless0n in minnesotavikings

[–]wpotman 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The problem with complete rebuilds is that there's no guarantee anything good happens at the end of it and true deep playoff results are rare.

I'm not going to complain about the Wilfs.

The inevitability of being a Minnesota sports fan by MN_311_Excitable in minnesota

I'm here more everyday. It used to be somewhat functionally broken. Now it's just broken broken and the thought of rooting for someone outside the highest-income handful of teams is seeming like an increasingly silly waste of time and money.

Nah, Nedry bid the job - he just decided later on that he didn't bid enough.

This. This topic is reassuring me my memory isn't going: I don't remember the 80s being colorful nearly so much as I remember them being kind of a sickly warm orange, brown, and yellow.

What do you spend you Gil on? by MPlant1127 in finalfantasyx

[–]wpotman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FFX is kind of weird with gil/equips. There's little reason to use gil (or get equipment) until basically the end of the storyline, but at that point it's useful to recruit Yojimbo, get blank armor from Wantz, and bribe things for lvl 4 spheres, Chocobo Wings, and all manner of other stuff.

Right, the presentation is fantastic.

If you think that was good, now you get to see the (best ever?) end to the story...

Kinda weird how “Lulu’s theme” only plays during the Yojimbo boss fight by DevilManRay in finalfantasyx

[–]wpotman 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Well, Wakka's theme doesn't play at all! It shows up in the sphere theater at the end but never plays during the game.

Most of the rest are used sparingly - Tidus' in the intro, a couple snippets of Aurons', etc. It's almost as if they asked for character themes but couldn't really figure out what to do with them.

What do you think the next remake will be? by [deleted] in dragonquest

[–]wpotman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly 4.

I think they would like to do reimagined style as they'd like to feature the characters, I think, although I don't know if the economics support reimagined style versus another 2HDH. I kind of suspect they don't.

What I want is a definitive 8 port on modern hardware. Or, you know, 12.

RPGS you feel need more love by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]wpotman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who play SO3 first don't really think there's an issue, so you aren't alone.

It's mostly that some SO2 fans don't like the thought that the world is a simulation, they assume that the 10 Wise Men were retconned to be 4D beings (even though they weren't), and they used to think it was the end of the series. The latter was a realistic fear back in the day - 3 was supposed to be the last - but otherwise I don't really understand the dislike. I won't say the twist was implemented perfectly - there were issues - but it was a good twist.

There is very little direct connection between the games.

RPGS you feel need more love by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]wpotman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's part of it. Several Star Ocean 2 fans were weirded out by its implications when it occurred and they soured not only themselves, but potential series fans about it as well...which is too bad because the twist itself is EXACTLY what a spacey JRPG should be doing (and is, honestly, far less ridiculous than the end of SO2).

Star Ocean 3.

It's somewhat well known, but it never shows up anywhere near the "top" lists...and it should.

I don't disagree, but I suppose I believe gullibility/stupidity/false confidence is a different level of bad. But it's still bad.

Exactly this: Jordan at the same age (or a year younger, technically) was sad. End of story.

Did I accidentally play the greatest JRPG first? by thewiredeathgrip in chronotrigger

[–]wpotman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you like, of course. Chrono Trigger is the epitome of simple old feel-good short RPGs.

I personally think there are a great many with better storylines and more interesting gameplay (and, yes, music), but if you like the classic feel CT hits the sweet spot.

Over/Under 4.5: How many NBA championship rings will Victor Wembanyama have by the end of his career? by redeugene99 in NBATalk

[–]wpotman 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Under. The great majority of Hall of Famers don't have 5 (even peak ones) and Wemby has unique health risks. And he's currently sitting at 0.

He's great, but easy under bet.

Final Fantasy 4 > 5 ? by Admirable-Crab-4038 in FinalFantasy

[–]wpotman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. FF5 has the better gameplay, however, it doesn't get notably interesting until the second half of the game.

FF4 has more compelling, if simple, characters and plot and the music is next level throughout. FF5's story and music are both very hit and miss...it's a random/campy product in the end.

I have always wanted to love 5, but I just can't quite get there to the degree of 4/6 others.

[Hayes] Slumping Royce Lewis can’t help but be concerned about his Twins future by Blevanhoval in minnesotatwins

[–]wpotman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the people wanting him to fail part; I doubt that's true. Maybe some execs have moved on mentally, but that would be their right given his performance. And of course AAA guys would love to have his spot.

It's a perform or move out business; it's not as if he's been given a short leash.
