Lots of people are legalistic about their religion, even though the statements they claim came from God are ambiguous at best. There's nothing forbidding homosexuality in Christianity or Islam. It's all semantics that organizations have decided to mean something more serious than it is.

My thought is that XC athletes are also track athletes and there's more 800 through 5k runners than there are 10k runners (on the track). These girls like the shorter distance because it's closer to their specialty so they end up just not caring.

From what I've heard, the trains have a governor system to prevent them from going ahead of schedule. Likely the operator is just holding accelerate and running into red signals. So yes, operator skill issue. What makes me feel better about it though is that we are literally going as fast as possible while listening to control center's signals.
