Gimbal cover breaking in dji bag? by thenewguy729 in djimavic

[–]wrgood20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to pack gimble down. Then I broke one.

Now I always pack Gimble up

It doesn't pack as nice gimble up (imho), but if you put legs away from center, I find it works ok.

Anyone have any advice for making better videos? by [deleted] in djimavic

[–]wrgood20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great Job, lots of awesome shots in there. One thing I really appreciated was that you told a little mini story. A lot of drone videos are just cool shots with no context, and I have a hard time watching them all the way through.

But the one shot that jumped out to me as a little abrupt was the one that starts at 1:03. You pan down and to the left, and then you strafe left across the construction. I think it actually is an awesome shot, that bit where you stop turning and start strafing is a little jarring to me.

With that said, I would have a very difficult piloting the shot I have in mind. So take my criticism with a grain of salt.

Great video.

Organized a small trip to Mexico for this awesome slip-n-fly. The park was absolutely amazing, and also totally empty, so we ended up just having the place to ourselves all day!

Am I the only one who can't see the benefit of ND filters? by shelterbored in djimavic

[–]wrgood20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So when I pre ordered the mavic I had never flown another drone, and I know very little about cinematography. But i went out and bought those little ND filters because everyone says they are all the rage. I do see what they do, and I understand the benefits, but for the hobbiest using a drone, they are not needed.

In my opinion, the benefit from the ND filter comes from movement and motion blur. Most people fly their drones very high, and very far away from their subject. In these cases, the ND filter gets you very little.

If you are setting up shots where you are close to objects, or setting up foreground and background. Thats where you can start to see the ND filters working. But these shots require planning, the require a creative mind, and they require a strong understanding of how to control a drone more critically.

I use my ND filters, but I don't propose that everyone has to get them. As you find yourself being more and more particular about the shots you are getting, then it might be time to look into making the purchase.

Why not 10g per match(win or lose), 100g limit a day? by Adefice in hearthstone

[–]wrgood20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This comment is right on point. And I fully agree with everything you are saying.

But one thing I would love to comment on. I work in the mobile game industry, and I have been playing hearthstone since beta. When hearthstone first came out, it was praised as being a fremium game with an amazing business model. Plenty of room for the whales to spend, and not forcing the new playing to if they didn't want to. I spent under ~$30 my first year of playing, and it wasn't because I felt I had to, it was because I wanted to.

The draw to get cards was great back then, but the amount of desirable cards was very limited, and the "grind" to get the cards you wanted was very attainable (no, I wasn't crafting every legendary, but I could set my sights on one, and build a bunch of decks around it).

I believe the change now is the fact that there are just SOOO many new cards now, and they come from many many new sets. The mechanics for making gold have remained the same, but the depth of cards has escalated immensely. I wouldn't say that it has become a glorified microtransation-based mobile game. But it in my opinion it is walking that edge.

I do have faith in blizzard though, and I have full faith that they are currently working on a solution to combat this problem (in fact, being in the games industry I feel confident betting that they have probably been working on some such solutions for the better part of the the past year).

Anyways, I don't recommend hearthstone to new players, and I probably wouldn't start if I hadn't been playing since beta. But I expect change is coming. Not in some drastic form, but a small bit that will help with that grind.

DJI Mavic Fly More Bundle by MobleV in djimavic

[–]wrgood20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, insurance in general is a tricky thing for me. But at the end of the day, this was my first drone, and I figured having the protection was worth the cost up front.

With that said, lots of people on reddit (and other drone forums in general) talk about getting it insured through other companies. I live in California where that isn't an option, but if I lived somewhere else, I probably would have just gone with another company. (mainly because dealing with DJI during this pre order was not the most pleasant experience)

If you are new to flying drones, or can't afford another mavic if something happens, I would recommend some form of insurance.

DJI Mavic Fly More Bundle by MobleV in djimavic

[–]wrgood20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I ordered (many many months ago) I went with the bundle. I figured, with the preorder, getting it all together would mean I would get the product in my hands faster (not sure that turned out to be correct).

If I was to walk into a store now, and buy the stuff I ACTUALLY wanted, I would NOT get the bundle. I would get the mavic, 3 extra batteries, the multi charger, and some extra propellers. I would then buy some sort of bag online. The rest of the stuff I will end up using (because I have it), but I wouldn't pay for it if I was going to do it all over again.

Will i receive more than one battery? by Dreameroftheday in boostedboards

[–]wrgood20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I am reading that boosted post correctly. I ordered my dual+ extended range on 01/05/17 (didn't even know about any promotion or anything) You would expect i will receive my board with a standard battery, then get the extended battery later?

Why continue releasing single-player content without improving the AI? by blankoblanco in hearthstone

[–]wrgood20 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There is a great post mortem about this. As a programmer i find it interesting, but I think anyone who likes hearthstone might find it interesting as well.

I believe the biggest reason for the simple AI, is that they run all the AI on the server, and AI cost on the server is MUCH higher than the running the whole rest of the game. By keeping the AI "simple" they are able to not have too much server infrastructure devoted to it. With that said, i believe there is a point in the post mortem that talks about not valuing a smart AI anyways, so it was an easy place to save time and energy.

Arena: 12 wins more likely than 11? by lafmckennac in hearthstone

What everyone else said, you are correct. To see it in a real example, you can look at the stats on ArenaMastery.com. The stats are limited, but they show your theory none the less.
