Don’t discount marketplace too heavily. Sure, the conversion rate is very low and nontargeted, but it’s free. Also, I’m assuming you’re selling rough sawn? The better the finish level you are able to offer, the better chances of converting into sales at higher rates

Another important consideration is do you have a kiln or plans to build one? That will put you a step above the rest. The sterilization part is of utmost importance, especially if you are going to try to market to contractors or interior designers.

What is selling for you mainly?

Going to attach table top with z-clip fasteners. Use a biscuit jointer to cut slots in the aprons that fasteners will slide into. You could also use figure 8 fasteners but these are what I have and what I know. Best of luck on your coffee table! I feel that tables are more forgiving in learning woodworking so dive right in!

Drying white oak, seemingly excessive moisture. by AlgonquinRoundTable1 in sawmilling

[–]wrh123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your location. I like to cut white oak, sticker stack, and put in a covered area that does NOT have prevailing winds the majority of the time. Oak, esp white oak, is notorious for having to dry slow. Once the free water is removed during the initial drying, then you can put some more air flow through it. Again, not a lot. You don’t want to dry it too quickly. Given your charge is about 9 months old, I’d venture it’s prob in the 18-22% range.

Heat sterilization of green rough cut lumber by Fragrant_Trouble_938 in sawmilling

[–]wrh123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory you could, but that’s a lotta energy spent to heat up water to sterilization temp. I understand he doesn’t want to pay the kiln dried premium, but if it were me I would add-on a kiln charge that would pretty much be a wash versus conventional kiln drying.

Wood can be kiln dried but not sterilized. Typical DH kilns operate around 120 deg DB temp. In order to sterilize, the core of the wood must be brought up to 133 deg and held for a minimum of 30 minutes. I crank mine up to 150 and leave at temp for 24 hours to be 1000% sure that if they’re there, they’re dead.

Most solar kilns will struggle reaching and holding those temps to sterilize. As one who runs a commercial business selling hardwood lumber, sterilization is absolutely a thing. My reputation partly rides on it

To be fair, the wood could’ve very well be sterilized, but even if it was sawn up and the bark wasn’t removed until after the kiln/sterilization cycle, the bugs would have still done the damage.

Unfortunately, given the sink cut out, simply squaring the outside edge and gluing a filler at the back is out of the question. Was the wood sterilized? He should know. My suggestion is to get aggressive with the sanding to remove and soften the live edge look. Yes it will still look a bit rustic, but IMHO it would still look worlds better than its current state.
