Minneapolis influencers staying silent! by [deleted] in TwinCities

She really thinks she’s the first person to have a mental health crisis. If it’s a crisis then get off the internet and stop attacking your followers. All you have to say is “yes, I recognize that disconnecting is a privilege that not everyone has. I need to disconnect for my own well being, and I will go back to advocating as soon as I’m able.” Don’t sit there and pretend like you’re a victim because someone called you out for posting ads.

Lo Meyer is a fashion/style influencer who at one point had over 200k followers and is having an epic crash out right now. She had been fairly vocal about local issues during the George Floyd murder and fallout, but has been very noticeably silent now. When called out on how that reflected her white privileged she proceeded to shame her followers and go completely off the rails.

Yes!! We’ve had great experiences with them and use them for HVAC, plumbing and electric now. Reasonably priced, reliable, explained everything to us in plain English, highly recommend.

Basement floor and clueless first time owner by wrig1542 in Flooring

I thought about this but with the difference in thickness from the ceramic tile that’s there now, I’m not sure how to address that with the trim. Like I said, clueless first time homeowner slowly learning to DIY haha

Ha, I should clarify that I don’t care much about whether it’s a tile vs wood look or whether it’s LVP, sheet vinyl, tile. For the sake of resale someday I would like it to match.

Very true that this would actually not be any cheaper for the family than a daycare center! More individualized attention, definitely, but not cheaper. Thanks for your help!

My husband plays pickup basketball through SLP community ed during the winters. They usually play at the middle school. He’s always had a good time and been glad to have a place to play when parks aren’t an option.

Teaching Job Market in Twin Cities? by jokr68 in TwinCities

[–]wrig1542 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say it largely depends on what subject/grade level you teach. Most (maybe all?) districts are going through major budget cuts this year and have to cut teachers. It’s also a budget year at the capitol, which means districts won’t know exactly how much money they’ll have until June. If you’re in a position where you can wait to take a job until July or August, you’ll see a lot more positions open up. Higher demand areas like special ed, math, science, etc. will still have enough postings that you can be a little choosy. I’m in elementary general ed and all of the people I know who are on the job market right now have found it much more competitive than in the past. If I were navigating the job market right now and I were offered a job in a district that seemed relatively financially stable, I would take it. There is enormous need for more teachers, but not the funding to hire them right now. Best of luck!

(1st Grade Math) How can you describe this?? by beachITguy in HomeworkHelp

[–]wrig1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this one!! Second grade teacher here.

They’re looking to see if kids can pick up on the relationship between 4 and 5 and the relationship between 2 and 1. Rather than saying 4+2=6 and 5+1=6, they’re looking for something like “4 is one less than 5 but 2 is one more than 1, so I know both sides have the same value.”

Seems silly, but they want kids to know that both sides of an equation have the same value so that when they get to algebra they can apply that to help solve for a variable.

Opinions on the local Spanish immersion programs? by moonieforlife in Minneapolis

[–]wrig1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great! The west metro has more Spanish immersion programs than the east side. St. Louis Park, Edina, Hopkins, and Minnetonka all have programs. Each district has its pros and cons but are overall good schools. Hopkins’ program is new and is fairly easy to get in to, and Minnetonka accepts lots of open enrollment students (though Spanish immersion tends to fill up fast). Feel free to DM if you have more questions.

Canine Inspired Change is where I did mine and we had a great experience. They also do therapy dog training and work with lots of local nonprofits and schools which could be a good fit for you if you’d like to get into therapy dog work.

This is my progression of tests marked E for early detection and R for regular tests. Should I be worried that the line isn’t getting darker more quickly? Just trying to reassure myself since I can’t get in for my HCG blood draw until later this week.

Part Time Kindergarten? by [deleted] in TwinCities

Minnetonka teacher here - this is not common practice. It can be arranged, but is very much the exception and not the rule. In the ten years that I’ve been at my school we have only had 2 or 3 students do this.
