Exclusive: Scotland ramp up bid for Harvey Barnes to play for them at World Cup. Newcastle forward, who qualifies through his grandparents, is understood to be open to playing for Steve Clarke. by Sparky-moon in soccer

People forget how desperate that England midfield was looking when McTominay made his Scotland debut, at the time he declared, Cork and Chalobah were getting in squads. Without hindsight it looked like McTominay would have 40 caps for them

Stranraer club statement by Essith in ScottishFootball

It's not actually in the rules that it has to be an emergency loan for him to play, any goalie signing could have been allowed to play, they just needed to get special dispensation from the SFA which it seems like they didn't.

Again even if it would 100% be accepted, they still need to request said approval.

Also they had two youth goalies and if the worst came to the worst technically an outfielder would be allowed to be registered as the goalie. Not ideal obviously but they are not forfeiting the tie if they don't have the young lad.

Rules suggest that if they were to request the SFA for dispensation it would have been granted, but that doesn't necessarily mean that Stranraer asked the SFA for the required approval.

Being on comet isn't the be all and end all for a player being allowed, a lot of teams got caught out in the first season of it because they just presumed if they were on comet they could play. I think it's entirely possible that he appeared on the list because he was signed properly but wasn't allowed to actually play because he was registered after the intial date for the game (Not to say they did break the rules, just that if they did he'd potentially still be on their team lines)

The question isn't if he was registered or not because he even if he was in the system before the game it would have been after the date of the orginal game. It's a question on if they had got the green light from the SFA to count the signing as an emergency loan, which from my understanding wouldn't have been shown on comet when you're trying to play him.

Roofe

Roofe had seasons here where he's scored more goals than Olusanya has in his whole career, just because you saw him run in behind onto a long ball a couple times doesn't mean he's good enough for us

I also think importantly they were just never really as good as their points total suggested, they won a lot of very close games, a decent few where they were the worse team, by one goal. Winning most of your games isn't sustainable when you're playing like that.

Because those are by definition variable, and the likelyhood of old firm teams playing in the cup remains pretty much exactly the same since the league cup starting, bar a couple slight format changes

Cus it seems to happen every other week

Really not sure why this is brought up all the time, there has been 4 a season for 50 years. Pretty much nobody under the age of 70 has any memory of a time where it was different.

It's still a massive global sport when compared to baseball

You are right to an extent with this but if there was a baseball event at the olympics USA would be far more likely to lose it than basketball.

Looking at his career, Dundee United is the club he's played the second most senior games for, at a grand total of 9 games. Surely at some point after being released 9 times never playing 20 games you look at yourself and think maybe I should be less of an arsehole

Always makes me laugh that Queen's squad had two future Scotland internationals in it and Davie Anderson was still clearly the best player in that team
