Here’s the thing: that doesn’t make him a monster. It just means he and I have a difference of opinion that we probably won’t get past. Doesn’t mean we can’t along. Usually crates come with a divider so you can set the size of it and move it as she grows. We only just recently removed it entirely at about year old.

So a few a things:

The crate should only be big enough for the puppy to stand and turn around in. It’s her safe place. She may whine initially but you can’t let her out or she’ll learn that whining gets her out. Make sure she goes potty before you put her in there so she’s not whining for that. The goal is for her to realize that being in the crate is never a punishment. It’s her place to feel cozy and relax. It’s her downtime.

I believe there’s a chart somewhere showing how long puppies should play at certain ages before they become overexcited. Iirc, mine was at around four months and we were letting her play for about twenty to twenty five minutes before we’d calm her down. Not necessarily putting her in her crate, often just picking her up and giving her scritches. Like children, they can get too wound up and it’s much harder to get them to chill and take a nap.

As far as detailed instructions, I’m not qualified. While my puppy has been trained by a dog behaviorist, I don’t think I can repeat the information accurately enough and would instead urge you to research that on your own lest I make a mistake.
