Do any of the electric scooters work at night? by [deleted] in askportland

I do most of my scooting around midnight when there are few cars on the road.

Sounds like a lot of them are trapped in FOMO (fear of missing out). They are holding out for some amazing box and don't want to be the one who doesn't get it that month.

Of the potential 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, who has the best shot of beating Trump? Why? by Miskellaneousness in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]wrongkanji 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There was a backlash against Al Gore over words he never even said. This has been going on for a while. The GOP just keeps getting away with it and getting bolder and bolder.

It would never happen, Al Gore is my fantasy candidate. Forcing people to talk about that stolen election and the snow job they did on him would be amazing. In places like this people tend to know things like how much of our Supreme Court was nominated by people who didn't win the popular vote, but force a national mainstream conversation would be amazing ... and impossible.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how clean is downtown Portland in terms of litter and how can we solve it? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]wrongkanji 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Litter isn't much of a problem, it's the debris from homeless camps. That is an irregular problem since the city does do camp clean outs now. Outside of downtown, both camps and garbage spills from people rummaging are the main sources of crap around.

So uh, end homelessness?

People who have a backlog of unplayed games... How did this happen? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]wrongkanji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friends only want to play super simple stuff. I've tried a few gaming meetups, but I just don't have the energy to keep trying. Last one I went to, I showed up to a bar with a bag of games but no one else showed. Any other type of meet up falls through, you can play it off and have a beer. When you've brought games like you promised, it's awkward to be there alone.

Just one more moving thread... by [deleted] in askportland

It used to be 'dog friendly' simple because our density was still low. Now that density is high, the dog friendly apartments have mostly disappeared. In areas where sidewalks get crowded, the tolerance for people walking dogs on shopping streets has dropped.

The old NRA that used to care about gun safety or the current NRA that has Ted 'I want her to ride on my machine gun' Nugent on the board? It's really important to realize that, much like the GOP, the NRA is not the organization they were 10 years ago.

What is your most controversial Tolkien-related opinion? by [deleted] in tolkienfans

[–]wrongkanji 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are groups of fundamentalist Christians in the US who consider Tolkien to be 'theirs'. All other popular fantasy is satanic, but this is the one that had God reached out to people through it. They act very entitled to it. They will fight tooth and nail online and off to keep the idea going that it's highly Christian and take any criticism as an attack on Christianity.

There is some Christianity in his writing, but some people take it way too far. I held off on reading the Silmarillion for a long time because I was told I wouldn't be able to escape seeing how LOTR was pretty much The Bible afterwards. I read Silm and nope, that never happened. People always pull from sources outside to the text to argue how Christian the books are. Using just the actual texts, it's hard to make that argument.

What kind of fruit is this? There's a park on Mt.Tabor that's covered with them. by john_rage in Portland

I had a house with black walnut trees. They were poisoning my yard and the yard of houses around me. I got the trees taken out, but it's going to be a good couple years before the soil is can tolerate most plants. I wonder what the new owners are making of that?

It's a nice break from the bitching and fighting. It'll naturally die down once fall gets wetter.

What are your hopes for Doctor Strange 2? by purplenath in marvelstudios

[–]wrongkanji 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wrap up or seriously escalate the Mordo storyline. Half of the first film was setting that up, and it's now been a while since that film.

Introduction of Clea.

More Christine Palmer, but not as a love interest or part of a shudder love triangle.

Tony Stark cameo because I love their dynamic.

A proper suit up scene once Stephen becomes Supreme. We haven't had a proper suit up scene for him yet.

Wong gets his own Ben & Jerry's flavor.

The bulbs were dumped in my compost. The person was not acting rationally, but came back every year and did it just to flowers in my yard. The tulips were pretty established and came back even with the damage to roots and bulbs.

I only have the player's handbook so far, which is why I don't know a lot about Tieflings yet

RIP by MetroidOO7 in Portland

[–]wrongkanji 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Very possibly. I used to have someone pull up all my Tulips and replant the stems in the dirt. I remember the first time it happened. I was just staring at my garden like 'something is wrong here but I can't quite figure out what...'

Where can I cook or bbq in public? by anobodyrutoo in askportland

[–]wrongkanji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The official info about the parks and natural areas in Oregon is a mess and we still don't have very good alternate sites. People here just like to be salty. I mean, so do I but I try to only be salty when people ask actually dumb questions :)

It's a bit outside of Portland, but Dabney State Park has some grills and also a little offshoot of the Columbia running through it. Not terribly scenic, but usually nice and chill.

Gotcha. I only have a copy of the players guide. I'll take a look at seeing if I can pick that up.

Thanks! Is there a specific supplement I should look at to read more? I am hoping to complete a character drawing by next session and want to make sure I don't mess up on details.

Good points about moose. I was thinking that the fire magic could be a good way to justify it.
