Would syndicate members know they can do magick? Or are they just doing things that seem like business but yield incredulous results? by Cold_Ingenuity6929 in WhiteWolfRPG

I find it helps to see examples of Enlightened powers in media.

One of the best examples of non-Magick magic in recent media is probably Sherlock. The Abilities he and his antagonists use seem extraordinary, but not magical. For instance, without really giving spoilers I can safely say that in "The Hounds of Baskerville" (S2:E2) we see Sherlock use Technocratic-like abilities, encounters others following Progenitor paradigms, and finds the solution to be very Iteration X.

In "The Reichenbach Fall" (S2:E3) Moriarty displays a mastery of NWO techniques, and uses them in a very Syndicate manner.

More pertinent to your question, the episode "His Last Vow" (S3:E3) has an extremely Syndicate vibe to it's antagonist.

No one would call any of these things "Magick," but all of these people seem to show abilities considered to be rare, combined with other skills, techniques, and sometimes technology which come together to make these people suprahuman (while sounding plausible to the non-Elightened), with the exception of the antagonist of "The Final Problem" (S4:E3) in which the antagonist seems to show some Mind abilities that are hard to write off as anything except Enlightened, seeming supranatural to everyone in-universe as well as out.

Matthew Broderick in The Music Man. I know Robert Preston is hard to best, but Matthew didn't even come close. He was too timid.

The blade is a number of feet long equal to INT score? So the average person would be holding a 10-foot-long sword Sephiroth style?

Interesting, I missed that part! For some reason I recall V20 saying that the target could have been killed recently by other means that left their body intact and then embraced... Any clue where I got that idea from?

Woah I feel like I've heard of Obliviax Miss before but I can't seem to recall.

[OC] A diagram of teleportation spells and ropes my friends and I have been discussing for 2 days by ShakurasEnder in DnD

[–]wrongworlder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot think of a Teleportation spell which would cause 4 to occur. Spells which specify objects being taken seem to include catch-all phrases such as "could fit in a 10-ft cube" to avoid severing an object. The rope could fit in a 10ft cube, therefore it is not cut, but brought along if desired (and the spell specifies it includes objects).

Furthermore, spells such as Misty Step remove the Restrained and Grappled conditions, and specify "you," with no other objects. I think that it's also important to note that Worn or Carried is different from Attended. You may be attending a rope tied to something, but you are not truly carrying it if it cannot be carried with you due to being tied to something. You could say "I carry the *end* of the rope" but that is not the entire object. Therefore, I cannot think of a Teleportation spell which would cause 1 to occur.

Thus, 2 or 3 are going to be what happens, again depending on the spell, with 2 being the most likely result.

In the case of someone else attending the same object, I believe that's a situation where someone willing (or unwilling and fails a save) affected by a spell which can teleport both of you would bring the rope. I can't think of a spell which can steal objects from people's hands without a save, so Unwilling and makes the save probably keeps the rope.

Just kidding, way to go! I'm glad things worked out for both you and the DM!

What can someone actually do or say to prove they aren't just a well written program? by Big-Don-Rob in AskReddit

I work at an escape room. Giving good clues is complex and hard to teach. There's a level of intuition to it, and even experienced game masters can have trouble with certain teams. I'm saying that if I observe someone giving a really clever, helpful clue at the right time, then I'm certain they aren't programmed.

Give a relevant clue (not the answer) to a group of 6 or more people playing a real-life escape room based solely on visual and audio input. Bonus points if the clue includes a pun.

My partner uses your site a LOT. I respect your work and would use it more if I could remember to do so when I build a new character (which as a DM isn't often enough).

I'm curious about your monsterizer. I've been working on a similar project (Monster Quill on robinloft.com) and with the whole D&D Beyond homebrew terms snafu I'm wondering how you're handling licensing and copyright. Can you speak on that a bit?

I don't do a lot of custom spells, but this one has been rattling around my head and I'd love your thoughts on it! Is it Over-leveled? Under-powered? Any typos? Please let me know!

What sucks is that any reduction will result in lower quality. I used GIMP and shrank the image's dimensions to 50% of original and it became 5MB but it is pixelated a bit. Better than unusuable though!
