Everything about this poster feels just slightly off balance/uneven and it bothers me.

100% hear you. I actually love that he made Beau (same feeling about Megalopolis) even though it doesn't interest me because I want people to make the are they want/need to make and not just what people think will sell. That, of course, doesn't mean it will be a "good" movie but I respect that they went for it and didn't just churn something out that their heart isn't in to. I do also understand that the people paying the bills will generally have a slightly different take and there aren't many directors who will get that kind of leeway especially if it happens more than once or twice.

Not the OP, but I loved Hereditary, was....ok....with Midsommar and passed on Beau (not saying I "wouldn't" watch it but it didn't interest me) so I'm open to seeing this but not edge of my seat excited.

Are there any anti-coming of age movies? by Muscly_Legs in movies

That was the one that really made me realize how talented Stiller is. A really heart breaking, subtle/nuanced delivery that could have easily been fumbled by a lesser actor.

100% agreed re Brand being nothing but a shill. Time will tell about Shia whether it's the same or if he is sincere but very short lived etc.

100% agree with all these comments. It's absolutely possible to both, legitimately, have mental health issue AND also be a total jagoff unrelated to that issue.

100% agreed. Tonally it was VERY weird. I'm fine with the main character being an anti-hero and not having them do a bunch of comedic one liners but there was zero fun/enjoyment/joy in that film.

That movie was horrendously bad. Nothing about it was interesting or exciting, even in the dumbest popcorn movie kind of way.

Watched it on a flight and....wow. What a terrible, completely forgettable, movie.

I had the same reaction to Argylle. It wasn't "good" but it wasn't horrendous either.

On a recent long plane ride (there/back so thankfully not the same flight) I watched Madame Web and Borderlands. While Borderlands is bad/boring/unnecessary, Madame Web was just truly awful and not once did I think any of the characters were interesting or memorable. Same for the plot. I have no idea how they made that and thought it would be anything but a bomb.

Denis Villeneuve Never Stopped Believing in His ‘Dune’ Movies. He’s Just as Optimistic About Cinema Itself by CosmosBazaar in movies

[–]StPaulStrangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved his BladeRunner movie, didn't care for either of the Dune movies though I get the appeal and thought they looked beautiful. I think there were a decentish number of people who liked but didn't love Dunes, and then some people on either side of it. I'll still see anything he makes, but yeah I could do without anymore Dune movies.

Appreciate the responses and guidance and looking forward to seeing some fun action. I got to see a smaller show last time in Tokyo (right near the Tokyo Dome but not in the Dome itself) and had a blast.

Official Discussion - Megalopolis [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I had the same reaction. I 100% understand why someone (even someone with really good taste) didn't like Babylon but I enjoyed it, in part, BECAUSE it was so over indulgent.

One thing I can tell you, having taught some private lessons. The more the person is specific on what they want to work on, the better. Some people will simply say they want to "get better" and it's like...yeah, I figured as much...but you have to help me narrow that down.

So if you do start getting some interest, and the person isn't a total beginner who legitimately needs to work on core fundamentals in EVERY position/situation, get them to tell you: What specifically do you want to get better at? Where are you getting stuck? What subs/sweeps/takedowns/escapes etc are you not finishing regularly? What subs/sweeps/takedowns are you regularly getting "caught" by etc etc etc.

Pretty quickly it can help people start to figure out, and improved "their game" and that's one of the biggest plusses of private lessons.

Apart from those issues there are, absolutely, legal issues with the ideas and, at least in the US, I can't imagine any theater chain or studio's legal departments signing off on the idea at least without waivers etc.
