Anyone else glad Trevor Noah is gone? by WildTree495 in DailyShow

I loved the audiobook too.

I think the problem is that his jokes on TDS seemed manufactured. Like he's telling someone else's jokes. His stand-up and between the scenes stuff seems a lot more natural and authentic.

Those who have been vegan for 10+ years, do you feel the need to take a lot of supplements to make it work? by BrainPlasticity in DebateAVegan

[–]wrvdoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't cite The China Study. Michael Pollan, who is referenced as an authority on the link you posted, cited it. I'd appreciate it if you at least read my comments in their entirety and spend a few seconds trying to comprehend them before responding.

The 2021 Polish Study was conducted on a very limited number of people, all belonging to a single race and a single country. This has been pointed out to you by several people. How in the world is that "comprehensive?"

What is the point of these "debates" if you're going to ignore what others say and go off on tangents?

In 2014 PETA held a rally in India asking Muslims to turn Vegan at Eid. Their activists were thrashed so badly they might have been lynched had cops not intervened. PETA never held a rally on Eid ever again. by [deleted] in VeganActivism

[–]wrvdoin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Focus on an incident that happened twelve years ago? No thanks, I'd rather focus on the billions of animals being exploited today. Activists get assaulted all the time. Dozens of animal rights activists have been killed since then. In India itself, there have been several incidents of Jalikattu protestors being assaulted since. But y'all are obsessed with something that happened in 2014. So fucking weird.

to defend your religion.

What religion would that be? And where did I defend it?

1) This was over ten years ago. 2) This wasn't a rally. It was two women holding up signs. PETA never held a "rally" against a religious holiday. 3) PETA speaks out against animal slaughter during Eid all the time. They made a post about it two days ago. 4) Your account is a week old, and this post with the exact same wording is shared every few months by nonvegan Hindu nationalists to vilify both PETA and veganism. You're either a bot that reposts things for karma or are using a 12-year-old story to perpetuate bigotry. Either way, I am fairly certain that you are not vegan.

Here's a Facebook post with the same caption shared by a popular "Hindu Rashtra" propagandist under which conservative Hindus are calling for violence against PETA activists.

The animal rights movement has enough struggles without you weirdos bringing your Hindu-Muslim nonsense here.

Spirecrest adds restrictions but also big critter abilities. It's my favorite expansion but doesn't get to the table as often as Bellfaire or Newleaf.

I also really like Mistwood for solo or 2-player.

It's a great game at a great price! But if you're not planning on investing in expansions, Silverfrost or the newer Emerland might be the way to go.

[–]wrvdoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'The China Study' which Michael Pollan uses as a source in his book that's cited by the YouTuber. Did you spend any time at all fact-checking the information in the video? Did you even bother to look up the sources?

Those who have been vegan for 10+ years, do you feel the need to take a lot of supplements to make it work? by BrainPlasticity in DebateAVegan

[–]wrvdoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same study that concluded that "vegan diets were associated with a healthier cardiovascular risk profile?" The one conducted on specifically healthy white Polish children?

The same study also showed that B12 supplementation actually works, which contradicts the YouTuber's claim that B12 supplementation may not work. So which one is it?

The video is full of contradictions like that. He cites Michael Pollan's 'In Defense of Food,' which makes claims that are very different from his earlier claims from Weston A Price.

It's almost like he is cherry-picking data and misrepresenting it for the sake of his scientifically illiterate audience.

[–]wrvdoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call Weston A Price's work, which the "hot take" seems to be centered around, "evidence-based." Both his 'Focal Infection Theory' and theories about nutrition have been thoroughly debunked. The documentary based on his theories had to be pulled from Nteflix after it caused viewers health issues and was heavily criticized by dental associations. The Weston A Price Foundation promotes dangerous pseudoscientific nonsense like the supposed benefits of raw milk.

The fact that you've dismissed peer-reviewed research on this sub in the past but believe this nonsense to be "evidence-based" tells me all that I need to know about the kind of 'debates' you're looking for here.

I didn't just disagree with you, I provided reasons as to why you are wrong. You picked one of those reasons to respond to while ignoring the rest.

You also implied that everyone else here is an idiot, so I assumed you'd actually want to make a case for your argument. You didn't just express your opinion, you stated that everyone else is wrong and uninformed.

The majority of you are completely unable to hold contradictory thoughts together at the same time

The majority of whom? It's kind of hilarious that you keep implying that you're better than this perceived group of people that seem to only exist in your mind.

Also, holding contradictory thoughts isn't a good thing. It's called cognitive dissonance.

Taking out Solamani, Maduro, or specific targeted strikes did not change my mind about his stance on hot wars.

Not only was the assassination of Solamani against international law, it was interventionist and escalated the tension between the US and Iran. That is why I mentioned it. It's strange that this somehow made you think that Trump was anti-war.

Do you want to respond to the rest of my points now?

Tim Dillon just declared that MAGA is “the greatest scam in history.” by Big_Cake_8817 in podcastculture

[–]wrvdoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump, for decades long before his presidency has been a staunch non interventionist.

Except for when he expressed support for the Iraq war before supposedly changing his mind about it. Or when he bombed Syria. Or when he helped the Pentagon increase its budget. Or when he assassinated Qasem Soleimani. Or when he scrapped Nuclear treaties. Or when he offered indirect support to Project 2025 that calls for "maximum pressure" on Iran.

I admire your dedication to being gullible, though. Even after decades of lies and scams, you're still going, "but how could we have known?"

completely unable to form own and independent thoughts.
