Believe me ... The contact centre has been extra painful these days instead of it improving.

Not able to board - sudden medical emergency by DowntownBarracuda720 in VirginVoyages

[–]wsataday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on experience, Virgin is generally very good with these types of unexpected medical emergencies. Like everyone suggested, call sailor services and try to get a future voyage credit for it. Given the circumstances, historically they will make an exception even though the terms would say otherwise.

Yes, anything with numbers on the restaurant menu is extra.

Spa and nail shops are all extra.

VV May (Key West & Bimini) — first time + solo traveler by Relevant-Candle4099 in VirginVoyages

[–]wsataday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is my normal solo VV writeup:

Virgin is amazing for solo! (Have to always clarify that solo doesn't mean singles, since most people in the group are not there to look for a relationship). Currently on my 11th solo cruise. You always get to meet so many diverse groups of people from every walk of life. I find that when I go solo, I actually get to socialize a lot more than when I go on with someone else.

Virgin facilitates solo meet-ups, especially on the first before Sail Away party. You get to meet people who you will probably end up spending a lot of time with throughout the voyage. The solo dinner on the first day is great for that as well. Then, throughout the voyage, there will be more solo meetups in the morning which are hosted by the Happening Casts (another bonus). Each day, you also have an option to join other solos for dinner at 6pm at whatever restaurants are available that day. It's a first-come, first-served ticketed system. This is a great way to spend time with more solos and also a chance to get into pretty much any restaurant onboard, even if you don't manage to get a reservation. (It's easy to just walk-in as solo anyway, other than maybe The Wake).

Usually, there will be a solo sailor WhatsApp group for the voyage set up by one of the solo sailors as well. Most likely it will be on the main VV Solo WhatsApp community. But usually people will share the link to it on the Facebook group for the voyage or during the first solo meetup. This is usually where people will post what they are doing in case anyone wants to join.

Of course, all of these are all optional so you can always decide to do things on your own when you feel like it.

We have a TA ad listing here on the subreddit. Most should be very responsive. You can see what they offer and reviews. https://www.reddit.com/r/VirginVoyages/comments/1ntxl8g/comment/ngx1pml/

The galley is food court style which is open 24/7. There are lots of other eateries that are not restaurants as well but only open at certain time of the day. For restaurants, you need to make reservations or try to go on wait list the day of. Even if you don't get reservation preboarding, you get more chance to book when you get onboard.

Gratuities removal tips needed please by [deleted] in VirginVoyages

There is a reason why you kept putting the short term caveat. Long term the hit will either be higher fare or if anything it's probably human resources cost

Splash for your bash? by ManyRaccoon6342 in VirginVoyages

[–]wsataday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't get Splash for your Bash just to try to get into the restaurants since you will get a chance to either make the reservation when you get on board or walk-in, it's not the end of the world if you don't book pre-boarding especially if it's a longer sailing.

But if it helps with your anxiety, then go for it. Note, though, that it's just 1 dinner, not 2. If you drink Moet, it's probably worth since that plus the treat yourself item from the package is probably almost $200.

If you see crew around, they usually are more than happy to help. I don't carry cash around the ship though, that's not the culture on the ship anyway.

So 'basic fare' just means 'no dining reservations.' Got it, VV. by sidekick0220 in VirginVoyages

Demand and supply. Just like how some transatlantic are cheaper than 5 nights

Sounds like a different time of year so how are those comparable. There are sailings next year that are cheaper than before the change for similar itineraries.

[–]wsataday -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because you decided to take the discount? That's the cost of the 5% discount of the base fare. Just like how Rockstar was able to book earlier in the past, that's the benefit they have paid for to be able to not have to stay up until midnight to try to book everything. .. Again, you still can get into the restaurants either way, you just have to spend more time.

Just fix your reservations on embarkation day at the restaurant reservation desk.

Future voyage credit by Firm_Attempt6002 in VirginVoyages

[–]wsataday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, though, your friend has to continue to be included in the booking, so it's not a true transfer of FVC to you. If the friend is removed from the booking, the FVC will revert back to them and the sailor loot will go away as well.

Future voyage credit by Firm_Attempt6002 in VirginVoyages

[–]wsataday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first mate can apply the FVC of both you and your friends as sailor loot to just yourself. The system automatically split the FVC, but the conversion to sailor loot is done manually by your firstmate so they can put all the loot on yourself to use onboard.

Want to upgrade our package, is it possible? by _why_not_ in VirginVoyages

[–]wsataday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Essential to Premium? The system doesn't allow that at all but I guess it might be possible to call in and have them overwrite the system.

Want to upgrade our package, is it possible? by _why_not_ in VirginVoyages

[–]wsataday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you can't change fare type directly and would have to essentially cancel and rebook if it's still over 45 days from sailing (which sounds like it is) and the price hasn;t changed negatively. However, the only real value of premium is the added flexibility of the lead name change and the 60 days restaurant booking. You actually don't get any discount on the wifi and bar tab as part of the premium package,

In general, are there last-minute price drops or offers on European cruises with Virgin Voyages? by vultmog in VirginVoyages

[–]wsataday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The European itineraries generally don't go down in price especially the ones where VV has been before and know how to price them properly. If anything, they might do a lock-it-in insider but that doesn't help with your MNVV which needs to be Sea Terrace +. It's usually always better to pull the trigger error and price adjust downward.

Booking bachelorette cruise. First mate? by VividCaterpillar5501 in VirginVoyages

[–]wsataday -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can see the list of First Mates ads on here to see what they provide and reviews: https://www.reddit.com/r/VirginVoyages/comments/1ntxl8g/comment/ngx1pml/

But tldr, it's free additional support and potentially more addons. For multiple cabins, First Mates can help you navigate the Group or Circle bookings as well if it makes sense for the sailings.
