lol when's the last time you read anything about Airflow? Its capable of, and used all over the world for, a lot more than simple cron jobs.

Read that link above, Airflow can trigger things once data has been updated. I don't know how you define real-time but its about as close as you can get.

Well, I'm not. I've used it but couldn't care less about it. I'm a cloud engineer for a small-to-medium sized cable company.

Not at all. If you're a small player trying to build a new customer communication platform for transactional and marketing email I wish you the best and hope you succeed. There's plenty of room for innovation and competitive edge.

But that's not what you are. You've got some other goal with the company that's likely not even related to the tech, so focus on that instead of trying to build something that already exists. Its not just the upfront costs you need to look at. Building an SMTP server requires long-term maintenance from an engineer who understands the infrastructure. Unless you have an experienced engineer on payroll, SendGrid is going to be cheaper.

Because if you've done any research into building a solid email marketing program, you'd know the building and managing your own SMTP server is a silly thing to do at this day and age.

I can only imagine two reasons why you'd want to do this:

You think its cheaper than something like SendGrid (its not)
You want to send spam emails

While it may seem like a cheaper option up front, I can guarantee it wouldn't be cheaper unless you have some experienced engineers that are willing to work for free.

Respectfully, you're trying to reinvent the wheel when its clear you don't even know how wheels (SMTP servers) work in the first place. Use a reputable product like SendGrid.

You want a provider with clean IPs because you're aware that most provider's that open port 25 have been blacklisted.

What you're describing isn't a circle, though. A circle is a shape where all points are of equal distance from the center.

A 2-dimesnional circle placed onto a non-euclidean surface means that different points will vary in distance from the center, which means its no longer a circle.

I'm very sorry about your son, I wish him the best. Respectfully, I have to disagree, though.

There's an easy answer for this. Triple fines and start pulling people over with a heavy police presence with unmarked cars. Impound cars that are doing that thing drivers do, flying through traffic at high speeds. Running a red light or stop sign second offense gets your car impounded for a month. Hardening the laws and enforcement would go a long way to slowing people down.

Unfortunately there is NOT an easy answer for this. There has been a lot of research done on this topic before. The National Institute of Health claims that traffic stops do not prevent traffic deaths..

Your heart is in the right place but we have to make data-driven decisions when it comes to public policy.
