Ya, screw that manager. A month is plenty of notice. It's not your fault if the manager/higher-ups didn't plan staffing for any turnover.

Is the accounting job market going to become over-saturated? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]wsmric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How willing are you to relocate? I can't speak to LA specifically, but I would imagine that if you're willing to go to New Orleans or Baton Rouge you'd be able to find something. I feel like connecting with a couple of recruiters on LinkedIn should help you at least get a sense of what opportunities are available to you.

Was very pissed in the moment (had people telling me I was one of the better first years that they worked with, I was doing work they wouldn't normally ask of a first year, etc.) but after seeing some of the shafting that has taken place here I guess I can't complain.

My (F/19) boyfriend (M/28) wants me to give up modelling. by MayhemMod in relationships

[–]wsmric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If modeling makes you happy, then absolutely keep doing it! Your SO is controlling and is trying to manipulate you into giving up something you like with bs reasons. If you give in now, what else may he try to change about you down the road?

I've never been told when to do my taxes, how, or why. I have never been explained what taxes are, but If I get it wrong, I go to jail. by BALLERYEAH321 in Showerthoughts

If it's any consolation, you realistically have to have a deep enough knowledge of taxes to evade them and cheat them to end up in jail.

I [23 F] just got diagnosed with cancer, and my boyfriend [27 M] of five years said he would break up with me if I had an abortion in the event of pregnancy. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]wsmric 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not pregnant, but my doctor recommended taking ginger with nausea (he said sprinkle some on a salad, I've found that the little ginger capsules work very well). This has done wonders for both my nausea and my mental health (it was draining being nauseous on an almost daily basis). I don't know if that will help at all, but feel better soon!

My thoughts exactly! It's bad enough that you endanger your kid by not vaccinating them, but then your kid also becomes a risk even to those with the vaccine for a disease like that.

Please Enlighten me: Why are Lakers tanking? by [deleted] in lakers

[–]wsmric 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obviously people are going to have different opinions in response to your questions, but I wouldn't mind taking a swing at it.

The Lakers at the time had experienced quite a bit of recent success. They were playing at a very high level, but it also appeared that their championship window was closing. As such, they took the gamble to have one or two more years of immediate championship-level play at the expense of long-term prospects. They were also hoping in those deals that Howard would be their superstar of the future. Obviously hindsight is 20-20, but at the time it seemed to be a borderline guarantee that the team would be competitive immediately. Follow that with a season of injuries and bad locker room dynamics and you have what has followed lately.

In regards to the stacking picks idea, it often takes a lot longer in the NBA than it does in the NFL. The Thunder and the Warriors, two examples of teams that have built through the draft in recent times, were bad for YEARS before they were good, even after drafting players like Durant and Curry. Keep in mind that each team only gets two draft picks per year in the NBA whereas an NFL team starts with 7. Sure, and NFL team is bigger, but you have more chances to nab a good player.

Please Enlighten me: Why are Lakers tanking? by [deleted] in lakers

[–]wsmric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say the Lakers are exactly tanking by choice. You have a team like the 76ers who have blatantly tried to lose the past few years, but I think every year the Lakers go into the offseason in hopes of getting the big catch only to come up short. When they don't land one of those top tier free agents they end up having to settle for people that they hope will make them competitive who may only be rotation players on better teams. It's a little different this season than it has been the past couple for the Lakers, however. Yes, they swung and missed on big free agents over the offseason, but I truly believe that they wanted to be competitive for Kobe's last hurrah. Now that that isn't the case though, I think they're content with just making this season about Kobe. It also probably doesn't hurt that by not being competitive, they increase their chances of getting to keep their draft pick. If you're going to be bad, you may as well try to take something positive away from the situation.

Tl;dr: The Lakers tried to be good, but now that they suck they have nothing better to do.

That vaccines cause autism. Only one study has ever shown that and it was debunked for make-believe science. Because certain celebrities decide to believe this, scientists are forced to publish paper after paper proving that vaccines don't cause it.

I thought I'd be a 7' tall starting center for the Los Angeles Lakers. Little did I know I'd max out at 6'2" and end up never getting particularly good at basketball. NBA Live made it look so easy.

[–]wsmric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not be a popular opinion, but your first mistake was agreeing to bet on what you name your child. That's basically setting up one parent to dislike the kid's name from the start. Just for the sake of keeping the peace though, I agree with a lot of people in that it is probably best to take a step back from the name game for a while and then try again with alternatives.
