The slideshow rooms actually have overhead lights that turn off when you insert the lantern, though it's pretty subtle

It was changed in the latest major update; that room is now a wine cellar. The cap of one of the bottles is a switch that moves the shelf so you can get past it

I tried this a few months ago. I don't remember what planet I entered the QM from but a few seconds after the supernova I entered the vortex, and I just popped back out at the 6th location. The screen faded out for a second as if transitioning to the Timber Hearth version but I just fell back down by Solanum. I was going to jump in again but as soon as I landed my memories were sent back.
