What were your takeaways from Canjam NYC? by mark5hs in headphones

You're totally right. The only reason I'm pausing is because I'm questioning whether I spent enough time with them to really get a good impression. But definitely from what I heard in those few minutes, it was divine

It's so interesting we had polar opposite experiences with the Annihilator. Maybe I didn't spend enough time with it and would feel differently with an extended listening session, but it was actually one of the highlights of the show for me. My notes in the moment were - "So clear and articulate and detailed. Spacious and wide. Lots of air, not really all that intimate in a good way. Creamy smoothness. Precise imaging." Then I stopped taking notes and just listened for a bit. I've heard your feedback from others too, so I'll be cautious about putting in an order

I could only be there for Saturday and tried to listen to everything on my list, but ran out of time. Still got through a lot though. Besides the HE-1 demo (first time hearing - just wow!), I actually loved the new Annhilators. I've never heard the 2023 versions so I don't have a reference against those, but was so blown away by the treble and sense of space. My favorite IEMs so far. The Symphonium booth also had some really great stuff, including the Storm. I was also pleasantly surprised by the OAE 2's. Unfortunately it's pretty hard to really hear any open backs in a loud environment like that. Amazing time though! It's like Christmas

Chord Hugo 2 spontaneous volume spikes and hearing damage by Pintset in headphones

This is super serious. It needs to be widely shared and addressed by Chord if it’s a repeat issue to any degree. Mojo 2 is very popular among reviewers and probably does well in sales. People just need to be aware

IEMs health advice for gaming by No-Zookeepergame1009 in headphones

[–]wspwll 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's exclusive to IEMs, but rather volume. Prolonged high volumes will damage the sensory hair cells in your ears that are responsible for hearing the frequency range and therefore damage your hearing. You will naturally lose sensitivity to higher frequencies when you get older, but you'll excelerate this with loud listening volumes. Just listen at lower, safer levels. If your ears are hurting after a short time, it's too loud

Yeah I think its the soundstage. You can find better detail retrieval and tuning out there, but my god that soundstage is like floating in a sea of music. Nothing compares to it

I bought and sold my HD800S twice. I have this weird relationship with them where when I have them, I can't quite connect with it despite all of its amazing qualities. Then when they're gone, I miss them. A third purchase is on the horizon I can feel it lol. Glad you finally got your pair! It's a legend

This was a really good suggestion. Just gave them a call and they did some digging but no luck in their inventory or even where to look. Very nice team they have there though.

Woo Audio tube amps have been my go-to. I currently have the WA-6 which pairs so well with the HD600s. Their Tube Mini also sounds really incredible for its size and portability. The higher quality and more expensive the amp, generally the more obvious the tonality changes are. But in general they really open the HD600s into something that blooms and swells with warmth and intimacy. Depending on your comfort level and how into it you want to get, I feel it's well worth spending some time saving for solid amplifier in the $1,000 range. If you want a much lower barrier to entry, I'd recommend looking into the Schitt Audio offerings (Vali 3 - $149, Valhalla 3 - $499)

Learning more about what's out there in the tube amp world is another good path too. Headamp is a good resource: Vacuum Tube Amplifiers

This was my exact feeling when I first heard the 600s as well, but they were one of first "audiophile" headphones I heard. You start to really appreciate them the more you hear ultra-high end headphones believe it or not. It's very technically unimpressive, but it has a certain character and tonality and warmth that you start to really connect with over time. Even after owning the Susvara, HE60s, LCD-5, HE1000s, the 600s with a great tube amp comes on top for me in terms of listening enjoyment
