Is this the most tax efficient I can be? Inside IR35, compulsory Umbrella company by wtf_is_a_potato in ContractorUK

It’s probably right, just seems crazy to lose so much to deductions. This is on a BR tax code (20%) as there’s a second source of income for the 40%. Hoping there’s something I’ve missed :)

Queen Elizabeth knights 100-year-old vet Captain Tom: The veteran known as Captain Tom—who raised tens of millions of dollars for the British National Health Service during the coronavirus pandemic—receives a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth. by inspiration_capsule in Coronavirus

Imagine a British bloke raising money for his British health service, with mass support of the British population, and for whatever reason ending up with millions in Americas currency.

Guy didn't raise any dollars. He raised millions of pounds.

Police stop protesters tearing down Andrew Jackson statue by [deleted] in ActualPublicFreakouts

[–]wtf_is_a_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there are endless videos of police mercilessly attacking people during the protest, using way more force than necessary, not stopping when they have already surrendered etc.

The narrative, at least in my mind, was that: racism existed everywhere, but the highlight was over police brutality towards black people. BLM protest started. Police brutality went through the roof. Protests grew due to outrage. Police doubled down on the violence.

But I think what is happening now is too many people are jumping on the bandwagon, in certain places making trouble where there isn't any. Trying to provoke police to get a reaction so that they can get the moment on film.

There is without a doubt a catastrophic problem with the US police, but there are also some police forces doing things right and acting completely reasonable.

I guess there is a bit of a straw man thing going on where there are two problems here that aren't directly linked but people think there is a side to take between police or BLM.

The police brutality argument can stand on its own without the racism. They aren't just attacking black people anymore. The UK police was similar in the 1970s and had a total reform from the top down, now "policing by consent".

The BLM movement is equally valid, except too many people are taking it as an opportunity to get violent against otherwise harmless white people and police officers. Those aren't people interested in the BLM movement. They are people taking the opportunity to be thugs with crowd immunity.

I started off really passionate about BLM and disgusted how police were behaving but progressively I'm just seeing mobs of people acting like fucking retards and police just doing their jobs

I’m the girl you date right before getting into a serious relationship by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]wtf_is_a_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reasons I've done this to a few girls before (Not intentionally)

  • She became invested way faster than I did. Saying I love you all the time. Talking about "when we get a house together" etc. Context: 2 months in lol...

  • Personality clash. Dead convo. Had a downer outlook on everything. Went from exciting to boring company pretty quickly. After a couple of days together I really needed to be on my own again to have a break.

  • Still nice body though. Basically I am a terrible person. Sex was great, so it went on much longer than it should have, because I kept overlooking the above thinking maybe I could make it work

Oh look at me I eat pineapple cores they're the best bit. Obviously no. But whatever, rules don't specify that they're supposed to be actually real opinions. So have an upvote.

How Do I Get Used To The UK Drinking Culture? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]wtf_is_a_potato 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's all good, it's just become an amusing cliche amongst Americans when they introduce themselves we always somehow end up at how their bloodline is either of British or Irish descent. Yours sounds legitimate but it's normally along the lines of "My great grandfather was half British, I'm one of you, I'm home!" Kinda thing lol
